Platelets are an indispensable part of our human body. When we bleed, it is the platelets that help us stop bleeding automatically and clot into blood clots. Once we lack platelets, we will bleed continuously, and in severe cases it may lead to hemophilia. For a two-year-old baby, lack of platelets is a very serious condition. Parents don’t know what is going on. Let me tell parents what conditions can cause low platelets in two-year-old children. Drug-induced thrombocytopenia in neonates can be divided into congenital and acquired types: 1. Congenital: The pregnant mother has used a certain drug in the late pregnancy and has become sensitized. When the same drug is used again, a large amount of antibodies are produced to destroy fetal platelets. The main drugs include sulfaquinine, quinidine, para-aminosalicylic acid, phenobarbital, chlorothiazide, etc. 2. Acquired: After birth, newborns use certain drugs such as sulfamethoxazole, digoxin, indomethacin, etc. to produce antiplatelet antibodies that destroy platelets. Congenital or hereditary thrombocytopenia. 1. Congenital megakaryocytic dysplasia: A decrease or absence of bone marrow megakaryocytes leads to thrombocytopenia. It can be simple congenital dysplastic thrombocytopenia or it may be combined with various congenital malformations. The cause of the disease is unknown. It may be related to pregnant women taking medicine or infection. Others believe that it is related to genetics. 2. Hereditary thrombocytopenic purpura: Several hereditary thrombocytopenic syndromes have been reported in the literature, among which the more clear one is Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome, which is an X-linked recessive genetic disease. The cause is still unclear. It is generally believed to be related to allergic mononuclear-macrophage system proliferation and chronic infection. Recent studies have shown that the thrombocytopenia in this disease is due to the destruction of the platelets themselves due to defects. This disease often has a family history and is passed from females to males. Although the baby's lack of platelets is very serious, it is also a relatively rare disease. Parents do not need to worry too much, but they should not take it lightly. They should take their children to the hospital for regular check-ups on time. Once they find that their children have low platelets, they should seek medical attention in time to avoid missing the best treatment time. |
