Baby's nose is blocked and breathing is difficult

When the child is young, the mother wants to keep the child by her side at all times, for fear that the child may have any problems when he is out of her sight. Even when the child is sleeping, the mother will observe him for a while to see if he has any symptoms. Many parents reported that their babies had blocked noses and difficulty breathing, and they felt like their babies were suffocating just by looking at them. Here are some tips to relieve your baby's blocked nose and difficulty breathing. Parents can learn from them.

1. Baby's nasal congestion, runny nose, stuffy nose, and difficulty breathing

Nasal congestion means that the nose is blocked and is one of the common abnormal symptoms in otolaryngology. There are many reasons for nasal congestion, including pathological factors such as colds and sinusitis, as well as physiological factors such as narrow nasal cavity in children. When a child has a stuffy nose, parents should not act rashly. They should first identify the cause and then provide symptomatic treatment or treatment.

2. Nasal congestion caused by physiological factors

The nasal cavity of children under 2 years old has not yet fully developed. The nasal cavity is relatively narrow and the nasal mucosa is rich in blood vessels. It is easily affected by external stimuli and causes edema, exudation, and increased nasal secretions, which can cause nasal congestion. The symptoms of physiological nasal congestion are due to the nose being blocked by secretions or nasal crusts. Children often feel difficulty breathing and become irritable, crying, and in severe cases, they will breathe with their mouths open, which affects their feeding.

Parents can twist sterilized gauze into a cloth twist, gently insert it into the child's nasal cavity, and then slowly rotate it counterclockwise to pull out the secretions in the child's nasal cavity. If there are nasal crusts in the child's nasal cavity, you can use a cotton swab dipped in a little warm water and gently drip it into the child's nasal cavity. After the nasal crusts soften, gently pull them out. If the nasal crust is deep in the child's nostrils, you can first drop a few drops of saline, warm water or breast milk into the child's nostrils to moisten and soften the nasal crust, then gently squeeze the child's nostrils to loosen the nasal crust, and then use a cloth twist to roll out the nasal crust.

3. Nasal congestion caused by cold

Colds are also an important cause of nasal congestion in children. The body temperature regulation center of 2 to 3 month old children is not yet fully functional, their disease resistance is poor, and they are prone to catching colds. After catching a cold, the child's nasal mucosa will suffer acute edema, resulting in nasal congestion. Nasal congestion caused by a cold is often accompanied by a runny nose. The sides of the child's nose appear slightly red, and sometimes accompanied by fever, which makes it easier to confirm.

4. How should the mother deal with it?

To deal with nasal congestion caused by a cold, parents can put a warm, wet towel on the child's nose for hot compress (not too hot) for 15 minutes each time, twice a day, which can relieve nasal congestion. If the child cannot fall asleep due to breathing difficulties, or cries frequently, parents can hold the child upright or change the child's sleeping position so that the child's nostrils will breathe naturally.

5. How to prevent

1. Supplement your child with cod liver oil in a timely and appropriate manner to enhance the child's respiratory defense capabilities.

2. Maintain appropriate temperature and humidity in the child’s room.

3. When using air conditioning, do not blow the air directly at children, and do not create too great a temperature difference between indoors and outdoors.
