Why does my 4-year-old baby drool while sleeping at night?

It is normal for children to drool when they are young because they are growing teeth. However, if the child still drools after all his teeth have grown, the family should start paying attention to the child's dental problems. Children usually stop drooling after about a week and a half, but some children still drool when they sleep at the age of four. What is the reason for this?

Causes of drooling while sleeping:

1. Patients with anterior tooth deformity, especially convex tooth deformity.

2. Poor oral hygiene. The temperature and humidity in the mouth are most suitable for the reproduction of bacteria. The accumulation of food residues or sugar substances in the gaps between teeth and on the tooth surfaces can easily lead to caries and periodontal disease. Inflammation in the mouth increases saliva secretion. If you drool while sleeping, the drool has a salty taste, and your pillowcase is yellowish, it is most likely due to poor oral hygiene.

3. Neuroregulation disorders. Some patients with neurosis or other systemic diseases that may cause autonomic nervous system disorders may experience abnormal excitement of the parasympathetic nerves during sleep, which can cause the brain to send wrong signals and result in increased saliva secretion.

4. Drug factors. In addition, one of the side effects of taking certain anti-epileptic drugs is drooling, so you need to be careful when choosing drugs. Babies drool when they sleep because they have not yet developed the habit of swallowing large amounts of saliva. Their oral cavity is shallow, so saliva often flows out of the mouth, forming the so-called physiological drooling. This phenomenon will naturally disappear with age.

Through the above introduction, we understand the reasons why children drool when they sleep. We need to understand the reasons why children drool, and then prescribe the right medicine to see the effect. At this time, children should also start learning to brush their teeth by themselves, and we must let children keep their teeth clean.
