How to prevent tooth decay in babies?

Nowadays, more and more parents are spoiling their children. They give their children whatever they want to eat, which leads to tooth decay in many children. Children often experience tenderness, which is very troublesome. Treatment requires a very long period of time. Therefore, the best way is to prevent it. Only in this way can the baby's tooth decay be cured fundamentally. Let me give you a detailed introduction below.

"Tooth decay" is medically called "caries". The occurrence of dental caries is caused by many factors, including bacteria, diet, saliva, tooth structure and time, as well as general condition. These factors are interrelated and tooth decay cannot occur without any one of them.

Bacteria: There are many types of bacteria that cause tooth decay, the main one being Streptococcus mutans. Modern research has shown that these bacteria are mixed with mucin and food debris in saliva, firmly adhering to the tooth surface and pits and fissures. This adhesion is dental plaque. Dental plaque adheres very closely to the tooth surface and can only be removed by careful brushing, but it will reattach to the teeth within 6 hours. A large number of bacteria in the plaque ferment food residues or sugars to produce acid, causing the enamel surface under the plaque to demineralize and dissolve, forming cavities. There are no mutans streptococci in the mouth of newborns.

If parents and caregivers have some bad hygiene habits and are carriers of bacteria themselves, especially carriers of Streptococcus mutans that cause tooth decay, they may put the spoon in their mouths to taste food before feeding their children, or share tableware with their children, or put the child's hand in their mouths to play with him, or kiss the child mouth to mouth, and spread the microorganisms in their mouths, including Streptococcus mutans, to the child's mouth through saliva. The earlier mutans Streptococcus colonizes and reproduces in a child's mouth, the more severe the child's dental caries will be in the future.

Diet: Diet is an important factor for bacteria in the formation of dental caries. Food contains a large amount of carbohydrates: such as monosaccharides: glucose, fructose, galactose; disaccharides: sucrose, lactose, maltose; polysaccharides are grains. Whether it is monosaccharides, disaccharides or polysaccharides, they are ultimately converted into glucose for absorption by the human body. Glucose is an important source of energy for the human body. Carbohydrates mainly provide the energy needed by infants and young children to promote growth and development. At the same time, carbohydrates also provide energy for the activity of bacteria in the plaque. Through the action of bacteria, glycolysis produces organic acids, which put the teeth in an acidic environment, causing demineralization and destruction of tooth enamel and the formation of caries. It should be noted that if the food remaining in the mouth is cleaned out in time, the energy source of bacteria can be blocked.

The above are methods to prevent and treat baby tooth decay, which are also very detailed. If you are still very unclear, it is actually very simple. You should let your children develop a very good habit of caring for their oral cavity. If this habit is not developed, it will still be very easy to get tooth decay.
