What should I do if my baby’s stool is brown?

There are many newborn babies who become sick due to improper feeding by their mothers. If you want to know the baby's physical condition, you can observe the color of the baby's stool to know what disease the baby has and what problems the baby has. For example, if the baby's stool is soy sauce color, it may be that the baby has poor digestion and absorption, accompanied by cold, etc. Let's talk specifically about how the color of the stool reflects the baby's physical condition.

1. The amount of feces is small, the frequency is high, and it is green and mucous. This is often caused by insufficient feeding.

This type of stool is also called "hunger stool". As long as the baby is fed enough, the bowel movements will return to normal.

2. There is a lot of foam in the stool, which is dark brown and watery with a distinct sour smell.

This may be caused by the baby's indigestion of sugars in the food due to excessive intake of starchy foods, such as rice cereal and infant cakes.

If the possibility of intestinal infection in the child is ruled out, then parents should adjust the child's diet structure.

3. The water content in the stool increases, becoming soup-like, with the water separated from the stool, and the frequency and amount of bowel movements increase.

This is a pathological manifestation, which is often seen in diseases such as enteritis and autumn diarrhea.

Losing a large amount of water and electrolytes can cause dehydration or electrolyte imbalance in children, and the child should be taken to the hospital immediately.

4. The stool is loose, yellow-green in color and contains mucus, sometimes resembling tofu dregs. This could be fungal enteritis.

Babies with fungal enteritis may also suffer from thrush. If the child has the above symptoms, he or she needs to go to the hospital for treatment.

5. The stool smells like rotten eggs. This indicates that the child is consuming too much protein or is having protein poor digestion.

You should pay attention to whether the milk concentration is too high or whether the baby is eating too much. You can dilute the milk appropriately or limit the amount of milk for 1-2 days.

If you have already added egg yolks, fish and other complementary foods to your child, you may consider temporarily stopping adding such complementary foods.

As a mother, you must always observe your baby's dynamics and physical condition. You should know what disease your baby has and what he needs, whether he is hungry or thirsty. Observing the bowel movements is just a lesson mothers need to learn. There are many other things in life that mothers need to worry about. The most important thing is to carefully observe your baby's life dynamics and let your baby grow up healthily.
