Why do children keep blinking?

We all know that every parent must observe their children carefully when taking care of them. Whether it is living habits or diet, they can often observe whether the child has some problems through these habits. Many parents find that children always blink their eyes. They don’t know whether this is a normal physiological phenomenon or there is a problem with the child’s eyes. In order to relieve such symptoms in time and make parents feel more at ease, let’s understand why children always blink their eyes.

Why do children keep blinking?

First, childhood tics: Children with tics often show sudden, involuntary contraction movements of certain parts of the body, such as frowning, twisted mouth, shrugging shoulders and inattention. Some children will also make strange noises, or even swear and use dirty words at the same time. This condition is medically called childhood attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and foul language syndrome. Frequent blinking is also a manifestation of tics, which is related to mental factors such as mental tension and emotional instability. This disease seriously affects children's normal life, study and mental health.

Second, inflammatory stimulation: It may be caused by infections such as bacteria, viruses, chlamydia, such as conjunctivitis, keratitis, etc. In addition to increased blinking, there are also symptoms such as: red eyes, itching, increased secretions, tears, etc. Xiaoxin belongs to this situation.

Third, congenital inverted eyelids and trichiasis: Some children are born with inverted eyelids (medically known as eyelids), which causes the eyelashes to fall on the surface of the eyeball, irritating the cornea (the surface of the black eyeball) and causing tears. In this case, entropion of the lower eyelid is the most common, and careful parents can discover it.

Fourth, eye fatigue blinking: including visual fatigue, such as refractive errors, especially uncorrected hyperopia, myopia, and astigmatism, which cause visual fatigue of the eyes. This is a protective reflex that adjusts the curvature of the eyeball through continuous blinking, allowing for clear vision.

Fifth, neurogenic blinking: It is caused by the frequent contraction of the nerve fibers that control the orbicularis oculi muscle after being stimulated.

Sixth, habitual blinking: Some children have a history of frequent blinking due to one of the above-mentioned causes. After treatment and the cause is eliminated, they still retain the habit of frequent blinking. Some children, because they usually don't pay attention, like to imitate others' frequent blinking, which results in frequent blinking as a habit.

Precautions

There are many reasons why children blink frequently, and the treatments are different. Diagnosis and treatment require an experienced doctor. Once parents find that their children blink frequently, they should seek medical attention as soon as possible to avoid worsening of the disease.

The above is an introduction to why children always blink. After understanding it, we know that there are many reasons for this phenomenon, but each child’s physique and physical condition are different. Do not blindly use medication to relieve the symptoms. If the cause of such symptoms cannot be determined, you must go to the hospital for examination and consult a doctor in time. In addition, pay more attention to children’s eye hygiene.
