Why do children urinate frequently?

It is not difficult to find in our daily life that many people often complain that their children often urinate when they are taking care of them, and sometimes they are particularly prone to wetting their pants. However, these are not particularly important. What parents are most worried about is whether their children’s frequent urination is caused by a disease or an unreasonable diet. They are always afraid that some problems will arise in their children that will affect their growth. Because of their own negligence and failure to make timely adjustments and treatments, let’s understand together what causes children to urinate frequently?

Why do children urinate frequently?

The causes of frequent urination can be divided into three categories: diet, disease, and special physiological changes.

Increased urination caused by diet, such as drinking large amounts of water, eating foods that induce urination (such as winter melon, watermelon, and coix seed, etc.), drinking beer, etc. Due to the increase in water intake, the amount of urine increases through the regulation and filtration of the kidneys, and the frequency of urination also increases, resulting in frequent urination. These conditions can be improved by adjusting diet and exercising, and the frequent urination symptoms can be improved.

Disease causes: If frequent urination is caused by disease, you need to treat the disease first. After the disease is cured, the problem of frequent urination will naturally disappear.

Diseases that can cause frequent urination include: some patients with diabetes, diabetes insipidus, urethritis, acute cystitis, tuberculous cystitis, pyelonephritis, chronic balanoposthitis in children, vulvitis, etc. can all experience frequent urination. In addition, non-inflammatory stimuli such as urinary stones and urethral foreign bodies can cause frequent urination.

Special physiological changes: Frequent urination in this situation mainly refers to pregnancy. The later you get in your pregnancy, the more frequent your urination will be. Frequent urination without other physical discomfort is a normal physiological change, because the pressure on the uterus is increasing during this stage. The expanding uterus begins to compress the nearby bladder, causing a decrease in the bladder's urine storage capacity, thus causing frequent urination.

For infants under one and a half years old, frequent urination is normal because they do not have the ability to control urination.

What to do if you urinate frequently?

As mentioned above, for frequent urination caused by special physiological changes (such as pregnancy), generally speaking, any treatment or conditioning will have little effect. What pregnant women can do is to calmly accept the changes in their bodies during pregnancy. As for frequent urination caused by physiological reasons or diseases, you can refer to the following life precautions:

1. Appropriately control the intake of salt to help the kidneys retain water.

2. Drink boiled water with light salt and low-concentration sugar water, and do not drink large amounts of high-calorie beverages to prevent excessive calorie intake from causing rapid weight gain.

3. People who urinate frequently lose more potassium in the body and should supplement with potassium-rich foods, such as mushrooms, cabbage, beans, peanuts, walnuts, watermelons, bananas, etc.

4. Eat less diuretic foods: such as coix seed, winter melon, lotus leaf, apple cider vinegar, tomato, watermelon, corn silk, kelp, mung bean and hawthorn.

5. For friends who suffer from frequent nocturnal urination, the first reason to consider is whether you drank a lot of water before going to bed or ate a lot of water-rich foods such as watermelon. A normal human urine cycle is generally about 50 minutes. It is recommended that you stop drinking water about an hour before going to bed.

6. Nervous tension may also be one of the causes of frequent urination, which is mainly caused by tension before going to bed. Relaxing yourself can also help get rid of the problem of frequent urination.

7. Diseases should be treated early. Frequent urination caused by disease requires symptomatic treatment early so that the condition can be completely improved.

We also need to learn to observe unusual frequent urination, such as frequent urination accompanied by urinary pain, hematuria, incomplete urination and proteinuria, etc., and be alert to the possibility of urinary tract infection and urinary stones.

It should be noted that frequent urination caused by urinary tract infection is actually a good thing. You should drink more water to form more urine to flush the urethra and fight infection.

The above is an introduction to why children urinate frequently. After understanding it, we know that there are many reasons for this phenomenon. We should not be too anxious when encountering such symptoms. We must grasp the reasons and observe the child’s mental state more often. If the child cries, we should consult a doctor in time.
