Painless claudication in children

Painless claudication in children

In life, many children between the ages of 4 and 12 will suffer from painless claudication, which means that the children will not feel pain, but they walk with a limp. Parents must be vigilant about this phenomenon in their children, otherwise it is likely to cause skeletal deformities in their children or cause them to walk abnormally. They must correct their children in time. So what is the cause of painless limp in children?

Parents, please note: If a child complains of knee pain or limps for no reason, beware of a femoral head disease

Some children between the ages of 4 and 12 may experience unexplained knee or hip pain (simply put, buttocks) and intermittent claudication when walking, which is relieved after rest. At this time, most parents will think it is a sprain and not take it seriously, thus delaying the treatment. If the following symptoms also occur, parents must be vigilant and seek medical attention as soon as possible.

1. Unexplained knee pain, hip pain (buttocks), limping when walking, relieved after rest.

2. Use your hands to press down around the child's hip joints if there is any pain or the pain worsens.

3. Let the child lie flat and lift his legs to 45 degrees. The hip joint will feel painful.

4. The movement of the hip joint in all directions is restricted to varying degrees, and in severe cases, squatting is difficult.

If the above symptoms occur, it can be preliminarily diagnosed as Perthes syndrome, also known as femoral head necrosis in children.

Generally speaking, a pelvic X-ray is recommended for children who have limping for more than one week. CT or MRI can be performed to confirm the condition if necessary.
