What causes anal itching in children?

When many parents are taking care of their babies, they will always find that some babies always scratch their buttocks with their hands, and many children always feel that their anus is particularly itchy. If such symptoms occur, parents must pay great attention to it and help the baby to adjust in time. The first thing we think of is that in order to effectively improve such symptoms, we must understand the causes. Let's understand what causes anal itching in children.

What causes anal itching in children?

There are many reasons for anal itching, but for children, anal itching is mostly caused by pinworms that parasitize in the children's body. At night, female pinworms migrate to the area around the anus to ovulate, causing itching. Parents should provide their children with deworming treatment in a timely manner.

Pinworms are 1 cm long, as thin as a thread, and milky white. Their scientific name is Enterobius vermicularis. They parasitize in the cecum, colon, and intestines of the human body. The males are dioecious. The males die after mating, while the females migrate downward after fertilization. At night, 1-3 hours after a person falls asleep, they crawl to the anal folds and perineum to lay a large number of eggs. A large number of small white worms can be seen around the anus.

The eggs develop quickly and have strong resistance to the outside world, so they are easily transmitted. In children, the main infections are fingers and food contaminated by the eggs. When the anus itches, children scratch with their hands, and the eggs infect the fingers and nails. Or when sweeping the bed, the eggs are blown into the air and contaminate indoor food. A few are infected by mixing with dust in the air and inhaling the eggs. A few larvae hatch around the anus and then drill into the anus to cause retrograde infection. This disease often causes epidemics in collective kindergartens, boarding primary school students and families.

If a child has anal itching, parents can use a flashlight to check around the anus 2-3 hours after the child goes to sleep, around 10-11 o'clock. Generally, no thread ends can be found. Cover the anal folds with transparent paper, remove it and check with a microscope. Generally, worm eggs can be found. Worm eggs are rarely found in the stool.

Deworming methods for treating anal itching:

Method 1: Add 50g of Stemona bulbus, 30g of Melia azedarach root bark, and 3g of borneol (added later) into water and boil them into 120ml. Use it for fumigation and washing. Suitable for anal itching caused by pinworms.

The effect will be better if an oral prescription for expelling pinworms is added. The internal prescription for expelling pinworms is: 30 grams each of betel nut and stemona, 10 grams each of rhubarb (added later) and licorice, decocted in water and taken on an empty stomach in the morning for 2 consecutive days.

Method 2: You can apply local medication around the anus, apply pinworm ointment or put the ointment directly into the anus to kill adult worms.

Notice:

While deworming and treating anal itching, you should let your child wear pants with full crotch. The next day, put the pants in boiling water to kill the premature eggs. If you persist for a month, the itching will disappear. Be careful not to let your child eat his fingers and pay attention to personal hygiene.

The above is an introduction to what causes anal itching in children. After understanding it, we know that there are many reasons for this phenomenon. Therefore, parents must pay special attention to the baby's care. First of all, they must keep the baby's butt clean. After each bowel movement, they must carefully help the baby clean the butt.
