3. Diffuse otitis externa

4. Necrotizing otitis externa

5. Fungal infection of the external auditory canal

The main symptom is ear itching, accompanied by a feeling of stuffiness, tinnitus and hearing loss. There are black or yellow membranous substances in the external auditory canal, as well as yellow-white powdery mold spots.

6. Acute otitis externa

Acute otitis externa is also called diffuse otitis externa. External auditory canal swelling is also called localized external otitis. They are all caused by swimming, flushing the external auditory canal, middle ear inflammation secretions soaking into the skin, or ear picking (such as removing foreign objects from the external auditory canal, earwax, etc.) which damage the skin and cause bacterial infection. External auditory canal eczema and diabetes may also be triggering factors. The pathogenic bacteria are Staphylococcus aureus, hemolytic Streptococcus or Proteus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

1. The ears are red, swollen, hot and painful. Aggravated by chewing with mouth open. May radiate to the ipsilateral temporal region. It is often accompanied by fever and general malaise.

2. The ear canal is diffusely congested and eroded, with pus crusts or local mound-like protrusions outside the external auditory canal, and there are pus spots on the top when mature. After the ulcer burst and pus flowed out, the ear pain was relieved.

3. Tenderness of the tragus, pain when pulling the auricle, or redness and swelling of the skin in the mastoid area, disappearance of the postauricular groove, and erect auricle.

Diffuse inflammation of the external auditory canal caused by bacterial infection is called otitis externa. It can be divided into two categories: one is localized external otitis, also known as external otitis furunculosis; the other is diffuse inflammation of the skin of the external auditory canal, also known as diffuse external otitis. To prevent otitis externa, you must pay attention to correcting the habit of ear picking. When swimming or washing your hair, if dirty water enters your ears, you should wipe it clean immediately, and clean or remove earwax or foreign objects in the external auditory canal in time.
