What to do if your newborn foams at the mouth

What to do if your newborn foams at the mouth

Some mothers have found that their babies often foam at the mouth for no reason. In fact, the foam in the baby's mouth may be milk. However, even if it is milk, mothers need to pay attention to this problem. In addition, when mothers encounter the situation of newborns foaming at the mouth, don't panic. First of all, you need to learn how to deal with it. Let me share with you what to do if a newborn foams at the mouth.

(I) First, we need to distinguish whether it is "vomiting" or "spilling". If it is spilling, it is mostly caused by benign gastroesophageal flow. The treatment method is:

(1) Increase the exhaust time and change the exhaust posture.

(2) When feeding, you can first let out the gas before feeding.

(3) After the gas is discharged, hold the patient for 30 minutes and place him/her in bed with the upper body raised and lying on the right side.

(4) The last option is to switch to low-spill milk powder or use medication.

(5) Surgery to correct the gastroesophageal sphincter should only be considered if the condition is serious.

(2) The biggest difference between spitting up and regurgitating milk is that spitting up milk involves obvious vomiting movements and is pathological. It usually persists and the frequency gradually increases, and may even cause weight loss or electrolyte imbalance (such as pyloric stenosis or duodenal obstruction, etc.), while regurgitating milk is caused by physiological poor closure of the gastroesophageal sphincter. Most children have mild regurgitation within one month of birth, which will gradually improve after three months. If the symptoms are too frequent or last too long, it is advisable to seek medical treatment from a doctor.

(3) When you are unable to tell the difference, don’t forget that there are professional pediatricians who can help you diagnose and treat the problem.

(4) Colds can sometimes cause vomiting, but there may be several reasons, and it is best to see a pediatrician for diagnosis and treatment. For example, a severe cough can cause vomiting, a sore throat or phlegm can also stimulate vomiting, and a cold combined with gastritis can also cause vomiting. Therefore, it is advisable to solve the root problem in order to improve vomiting.

(V) The reasons for milk leakage from the nose are probably similar to those for general milk leakage. If it is not serious, it should be treated according to the above principles. If there is no improvement or it becomes more serious, it is advisable to seek medical attention as soon as possible.

It may be a common phenomenon for newborns to spit. However, many mothers do not pay much attention to it. In fact, this needs to be taken seriously. If necessary, you need to go to a regular hospital for examination and receive targeted treatment based on the baby's condition. In daily life, you should pay attention to the baby's appropriate diet and do not feed too much to avoid affecting the baby's development. I wish you good health.
