White spots on newborn's legs

White spots on newborn's legs

If there are white spots on the legs of a newborn, you should be alert at this time. There are many reasons for white spots, and the most harmful one is vitiligo. Of course, vitiligo in newborns can generally be cured. Parents must pay attention to this aspect, treat it in time, and use drugs reasonably, especially when it is just discovered. The earlier the treatment, the better the effect will be. Do not delay treatment.

White spots on newborn's legs

White spots on the skin refer to patches that are lighter than normal skin color that appear on the skin and mucous membranes. They are mainly caused by skin hypopigmentation or depigmentation. Leukoplakia can be congenital or acquired. Vitiligo can occur anywhere on the body, but is more common in exposed areas such as the face, neck, back of the hands, and in skin folds such as the external genitalia. Most are localized and exist in isolation, but they can also be distributed symmetrically, in bands along nerves, or spread throughout the body. During treatment, patients need to go to the hospital for examination in time, determine the cause of the disease, and then use targeted medications, and take symptomatic treatment to achieve the best treatment effect.

Is the cure rate of neonatal vitiligo high?

Neonatal vitiligo can be cured, and parents and children should have this confidence. Because newborns are in the developmental stage and have weak immunity, during the treatment of vitiligo, attention should be paid to the toxic and side effects of drugs, and they should be used cautiously and reasonably to avoid blind use of drugs that may worsen the condition. For the initial onset of white spots, the area is small, and the melanocytes of the surrounding normal skin can migrate to the white spot area, which also helps the white spots disappear quickly and shortens the course of treatment.

However, if the disease lasts for more than one year, the course of treatment will be extended accordingly. For those with a disease course of several years or even decades, treatment will be quite difficult because the melanocytes in the basal layer of the epidermis in the white spots are completely destroyed, and even the melanocytes in the hair follicles disappear completely. Therefore, early diagnosis and early treatment are an important principle in treating neonatal vitiligo.

Vitiligo in newborns is mostly caused by low immunity combined with genetic and mental factors. Many infants suffer from low immunity which is closely related to their diet. If babies are partial or picky eaters, their nutritional intake will be distorted, and over time, they will show signs of low immunity. Therefore, it is important to cultivate good eating habits in children, and not to be partial or picky eaters.
