How to treat mental retardation in children

Many children suffer from mental retardation, which seriously affects their physical health. Therefore, many parents feel at a loss when their children suffer from this kind of disease. So how to treat mental retardation in children? Let me introduce this issue to you below.

Mental retardation is a syndrome characterized by intellectual disability and difficulty in social adaptation. It may be accompanied by a mental or physical illness, or be secondary to the latter, and occur before developmental maturity.

Mental retardation refers to a syndrome characterized by intellectual function significantly lower than that of peers due to mental retardation, intellectual development disorder or hindrance, accompanied by difficulty in social adaptation. Patients with mental retardation lag significantly behind children of the same age in maturity and functional levels in terms of cognition, language, emotion, will and socialization, and may also have some mental or physical illness.

Diagnostic criteria 1. IQ 55-69.

Diagnostic criterion 2: poor academic performance, often failing or repeating a grade in ordinary schools, or poor working ability, only able to complete simple manual operations, and able to learn certain livelihood skills and housework.

Diagnostic Criteria 3: Able to take care of oneself

Diagnostic criterion 4: No obvious speech disorder.

How to prevent:

1. Evaluation Content

Children with mental retardation are in a relatively stable clinical state for a long time, and their imperfect or blocked intellectual development will almost always accompany them throughout their lives. Such patients can be assessed for social adaptation functions in terms of social interaction skills, verbal communication ability, self-care ability, independent living ability, and so on.

2. Nursing points

Educational training and nursing have great practical significance for children with mental retardation. This work involves not only the family and medical sectors but also the education, psychology and social welfare sectors. It is a social issue and special institutions and schools should be set up to provide special training and education to patients under the guidance of professionals.

The above is my opinion on this issue that I would like to introduce to you. If the child has the above problems, timely treatment is needed to ensure the child’s health and avoid dangerous situations caused by the child’s mental retardation. Finally, I wish the child a speedy recovery.
