How to diagnose cerebral palsy in children

In our country, the chance of children suffering from cerebral palsy is getting higher and higher. Especially now, one month after the birth of a newborn, you will find that some of the child’s symptoms are very abnormal. Then this may mean that the child suffers from cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy is a disease that often endangers the child’s mental health. Let us understand the diagnosis method of cerebral palsy in children.

Diagnosis of cerebral palsy in infants:

1. Abnormal muscle tone: Muscle tone is the tension of muscles in a resting state. The muscle tone can be understood by passively flexing, extending, pronating and supinating the limbs. Young infants can grasp their forearms and shake their hands to understand the upper limb muscle tone based on the range of motion of the hands. To measure the muscle tension of the lower limbs, you can also hold the calf and swing the foot, and judge the tension based on the range of foot movement. When the tension is low, the range of movement of the hands and feet is large, and when the tension is high, the range of movement is small.

2. Delayed motor development and reduced active movement: Delayed motor development is manifested in both gross motor skills and (or) fine motor skills. There are many indicators to determine whether motor development is lagging behind, and each movement performs differently at different ages. A normal child can lift his head at 3 months old; can actively reach out to touch objects at 4 to 5 months old, can clasp his hands in front of his chest, and can play with his hands in front of his eyes when quiet; can sit alone on a hard bed without falling at 6 to 7 months old, can crawl at 8 to 10 months old, and move his upper or lower limbs forward alternately when crawling; can stand alone at 1 year old; can walk at 1 to 1.5 years old. Children with cerebral palsy generally cannot reach the level of normal children at the above age stages.

3. Abnormal posture: There are various abnormal postures in children with cerebral palsy, which are related to abnormal muscle tone and delayed disappearance of primitive reflexes.
