What to do if your child has itchy eyes

What to do if your child has itchy eyes

Children's bodies are relatively weak and they are often infected by some viruses. If their eyes are itchy, they will scratch them with their hands without certain protective measures. So what is the correct way to deal with it? Let us explain what to do when children's eyes are itchy.

1. Cortisone eye drops that take effect immediately cannot cure the disease completely, and long-term use has side effects.

2. Corticosteroids can quickly relieve eye itching symptoms, but long-term use can cause serious complications such as glucocorticoid glaucoma and cataracts.

3. 2% to 4% disodium cromoglycate, 1:5000 epinephrine, 1% ephedrine and other eye drops, combined with oral antihistamines, corticosteroids, and intravenous calcium preparations such as calcium gluconate. Local and systemic applications have significant short-term therapeutic effects, but relapse is rapid after discontinuation of the drug. Generally, the dosage is large at the beginning of treatment, and then gradually reduced to the minimum maintenance dose once the symptoms are alleviated, and then stopped after a certain period of time.

4. Use 0.1% epinephrine solution as a vasoconstrictor or antihistamines such as terfenadine for ice compresses. An air-conditioned room can make the patient feel comfortable.

5. Cell membrane stabilizers such as sodium cromoglycate are suitable for patients with moderate and severe disease. The new generation drug nedocromil sodium can prevent the progression of the disease.

6. For patients who still have severe photophobia and cannot lead a normal life after a series of drug treatments (antihistamines, vasoconstrictors), 2% cyclosporine eye drops, especially 0.05% FK-506 eye drops, have a good therapeutic effect. However, the effectiveness of desensitization treatment for pollen and other allergens is still uncertain.

7. Traditional Chinese medicine fumigation therapy with wild chrysanthemum, honeysuckle, horsetail and safflower can relieve itchy eyes in children. Take 10 grams of each medicine, one dose per day, add water to boil, remove the residue and take the liquid, fumigate and wash the affected eye while it is still hot, 15 minutes each time, 3 times a day, after 3 to 5 days of fumigation and washing, there will be obvious improvement.

The above are the correct solutions to deal with children’s itchy eyes. For the problem of itchy eyes in children, you must take the correct approach. In daily life, pay attention to children’s eye hygiene and do not let them come into contact with electronic products with particularly strong radiation. In the summer when the sun is particularly glaring, also protect their eyes.
