What to do if the newborn's temperature is 38 degrees

Generally speaking, the constitution of newborns is relatively weak, especially for some premature babies. Because the temperature regulation system has not yet developed fully, the temperature regulation function is often relatively poor. The body temperature of newborns is easily affected by the outside world. So when the body temperature of a newborn is 38 degrees, is this a normal state? What should parents do?

The baby's body temperature often fluctuates due to certain factors. For example, in the evening, the baby's body temperature is often higher than in the early morning; the baby's body temperature will also rise temporarily after eating, crying, or exercising; if the baby's clothes are too thick, the room temperature is too high, etc., the baby's body temperature will also rise. If your baby has this temporary, small temperature fluctuation, it should not usually be considered pathological as long as he is in good general condition, energetic, and has no other symptoms and signs.

Of course, just in case, parents can take physical cooling methods. Here’s how:

1. The baby's metabolism is relatively efficient, and his body temperature is slightly higher than that of adults, but 38 degrees is a bit of a low fever. Pay attention to the temperature in the room on weekdays. It is usually not recommended to give the baby medicine if the temperature is below 38 degrees. You can use physical cooling methods, such as wiping the baby's body with water to dissipate heat from the skin. Cold wet compress on the head: Soak a soft towel in 20℃-30℃ cold water, squeeze it slightly to prevent dripping, fold it and place it on the forehead, change it every 3-5 minutes.

2. Wipe with warm water or take a warm bath: Wipe the child's head, armpits, limbs with a warm and wet towel or take a warm bath for 10-15 minutes. Scrub the skin more to promote heat dissipation.

3. Physical cooling drug patch: can effectively relieve children's fever.

4. Drink more warm boiled water and urinate to help reduce fever.

The above are emergency measures for when the newborn's body temperature is 38 degrees. If mothers find that their children have a slight fever, they don't need to worry too much. This is a relatively normal symptom, so usually physical methods can be used to reduce the temperature. However, if the child's high fever is severe and persists, you must take the child to the hospital for treatment as soon as possible.
