How to first aid when baby chokes on water

Nowadays, many new parents want to give their children the best, and more and more parents are willing to take their children to the swimming pool to swim and let their children exercise. However, water is still quite dangerous for babies. If parents do not take good care of them, they can easily choke on water. So what is the best first aid for a baby who is choking on water? The following is an introduction for parents and friends.

First aid for baby choking on water

1. Consciousness

If you find that the baby is still conscious, you must immediately let the baby lie on his stomach, press your hands on the baby's belly and raise them to the waist until the baby spit out the water.

2. Chest compressions

First, gently press the baby's chest 30 times with your hands, then press down the baby's forehead, and then lift the chin back with a little force. This can help open the baby's respiratory tract, allowing air to enter the lungs smoothly and avoid brain hypoxia.

3. Artificial respiration

Finally, the rescuer needs to perform two consecutive mouth-to-mouth artificial respirations, each time blowing for 1 second. After that, perform chest compressions in the second step on the baby who choked on water. The rescuer should follow these three steps in a cycle until the ambulance arrives at the scene.

How to avoid choking on water:

It is normal to choke on water when taking a breath. No matter how many years you have been swimming, there will always be times when you choke on water when taking a breath. It’s just that after swimming a lot, the body will automatically produce instincts. For example, when the nose fills with water, you immediately hold your breath, and when the mouth touches water, the water is immediately introduced into the esophagus instead of the lungs. These are conditioned reflexes caused by being in water for a long time. I mostly resolved them this way, but sometimes I would still choke on water. Once when I was crossing a river, a wave hit me as soon as I raised my head. I couldn't breathe and went back into the water. I only breathed after I got up the second time.
