Why does a two-year-old baby snore when sleeping?

Two-year-old babies already have their own thoughts and behavioral abilities, and are always very naughty. However, many babies snore when they sleep. Many parents always think that this makes the baby sleep more soundly, or that the baby is tired from playing during the day, so he snores when he sleeps. In fact, this is a wrong idea. Generally, there are many reasons for babies to snore, and parents must pay attention to it. Once it is a disease, it must be treated in time. Let’s understand why a two-year-old baby snores when he sleeps.

Why does a two-year-old baby snore when sleeping?

1. The baby sleeps on his back. Because the face is facing upwards, the root of the tongue falls backwards due to gravity, semi-blocking the respiratory passage in the throat. When air flows in and out of the nasal cavity, oropharynx and throat, the nearby mucous membranes or muscles vibrate and snoring sounds are produced.

2. The baby is fat. The soft flesh structure of the throat of obese babies is thicker, and the airway in the oropharynx is more easily blocked during sleep, resulting in snoring, and even apnea in severe cases.

3. Baby has nasal congestion. The baby's nose and nasopharynx are relatively short, the nasal passages are narrow, the nasal mucosa is tender, and the blood vessels are rich. Therefore, when infected, the nasal mucosa becomes congested and swollen, which can easily cause nasal obstruction and lead to snoring.

4. Baby's tonsils are inflamed. Changes in temperature and decreased resistance can easily cause babies to catch a cold, which can lead to tonsillitis, swelling of the throat, and increased secretions, which can cause poor airflow and lead to snoring.

5. Hypertrophy of infantile proliferative bodies. The hypertrophy of the nasal polyp blocks the posterior nasal cavity, which not only blocks the drainage of nasal secretions, but also blocks the air from entering and exiting the nasal cavity. After the child falls asleep, the gas exhaled from the trachea is forced to be exhaled from the mouth, causing snoring.

Nursing measures

1. Make the baby sleep comfortably. For babies who snore, you can try to put their heads on the side to sleep so that the root of the tongue does not droop too far back and block the breathing passage.

2. Obese babies should maintain their weight. Let the soft flesh in the oropharynx become thinner and the breathing tube become unobstructed, so that breathing will become smoother than before.

3. Babies with poor resistance. We should develop good hygiene habits in daily life, pay attention to ventilation when living, and keep the air fresh.

The above is an introduction to why a two-year-old baby snores when sleeping. After understanding it, we know that there are many reasons for this phenomenon. First of all, parents should not give the baby a pillow that is too high when the baby is sleeping. If the baby still snores, go to the hospital for examination to see if there is a problem with the baby's throat.
