Symptoms and treatment of IGA nephropathy in children

The health of children is believed to be the most concerned issue for parents. Many parents ask what IGA nephropathy is in children and how to treat it. In fact, IGA nephropathy mostly occurs in childhood. Although this type of kidney disease is difficult to treat, it can still be cured as long as it is discovered and treated early. Next, I will explain to you the symptoms and treatment of IGA nephropathy in children.

symptom:

80% of children with IgA nephropathy have gross hematuria as the first symptom. The incidence rate in North America and Europe is higher than that in Asia. It is often related to upper respiratory tract infection (Berger's disease). The interval between the upper respiratory tract infection and hematuria is very short (24 to 72 hours). Occasionally, hematuria may occur a few hours later, and most patients have enlarged tonsils. After tonsillectomy, gross hematuria stops in most patients.

Some children also present with hematuria and proteinuria. In this case, the hematuria can be either paroxysmal macroscopic hematuria or microscopic hematuria. Proteinuria is mostly mild to moderate.

IgA nephropathy manifested by nephrotic syndrome accounts for about 15% to 30% of cases, with prominent manifestations of "three highs and one low", and is rarely accompanied by respiratory tract infections before onset.

treat:

1. The most common clinical type of treatment in children is recurrent gross hematuria, and most of them have triggers, such as acute upper respiratory tract infection. Therefore, it is necessary to actively control the infection, clear the lesions, and pay attention to rest. Short-term antibiotic treatment also plays a role in controlling acute symptoms. Children with edema and hypertension should be given diuretics to reduce swelling and antihypertensive drugs, and a low-salt, low-protein diet should be adopted.

2. Adrenal cortical hormones and immunosuppressants Children with nephrotic syndrome or rapidly progressive nephritic syndrome should be treated with corticosteroids and immunosuppressants. Japan has conducted a nationwide multicenter controlled study, which found that the proportion of children with IgA nephropathy who developed long-term renal failure was significantly lower in those who received general treatment.

3. You should try to eat less spicy food and avoid smoking and drinking. While absorbing nutrients, teenagers should pay attention to a balanced and light diet and avoid eating too much high-protein and high-fat food. In addition, when studying or working, you should take a rest and avoid overwork. Moderate physical exercise can enhance physical fitness and reduce various infections or tonsillitis caused by colds and weak physical constitution. However, when engaging in physical exercise, you should also pay attention to the amount and avoid exercising too vigorously, which will cause excessive fatigue.

The above is the treatment method for the symptoms of IGA nephropathy in children brought by the editor. I believe that all parents have a certain understanding of it. In fact, if your child suffers from IGA nephropathy, don't worry. Just take your child to the hospital for regular check-ups so that the disease can be discovered and treated in time. The editor believes that the child will be able to grow up healthily again.
