The types and characteristics of rash after baby fever

Fever and rash in infants and young children is a very common disease, but there are many types of rashes, some of which are very similar, making it difficult for ordinary people to distinguish them, and they often make wrong judgments, resulting in adverse consequences. So how do we correctly distinguish different types of rashes and find reasonable solutions? Let’s find out together.

(1) Roseola infantum. The most important feature is that the sick child will have a fever for 3 to 5 days, which may be accompanied by symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection, such as cough and runny nose. When the fever subsides, red maculopapular rashes will appear, starting from the trunk and gradually spreading to the neck, face, and limbs. These rashes usually do not itch and do not leave any marks. When caring for the child, the most important thing is to pay attention to the high fever period, which sometimes causes cramps but is usually benign and leaves no sequelae. During the rash period, the child can go out, take a bath, and does not need to abstain from certain foods. (2) Chickenpox. Fever will occur at the same time as the rash. The rash will first be maculopapular, then form a transparent vesicular rash like dewdrops, and then it will fester and form scabs. Moreover, these four different forms of rash can appear on the patient at the same time, and the rash will cause severe itching. During the rash period, the child should be bathed every day, and his clothes and bed sheets should be changed. In addition, the child's nails should be trimmed to prevent secondary bacterial infection of the skin due to scratching. Children can even wear gloves. The rash process takes about a week, during which time the person is contagious. (3) Measles. The symptoms are high fever, cough, runny nose and conjunctivitis. Small white spots called Koplik spots will appear on the cheeks of the mouth, followed by red maculopapular rashes that spread from the face, neck, upper limbs to the trunk and then to the lower limbs. The rash then fades in sequence, and the skin desquams and leaves pigmentation. Traditionally, it is believed that when you have measles, you cannot be exposed to the wind or take a bath, and you must wrap your body tightly or avoid eating certain foods, so that the rash will come out completely. Doing so will make complications more likely. During the rash period, you can use clean water to wash the skin to keep it clean, and try to let the sick child rest or do moderate activities. If the fever is high, keep the room well ventilated, do not wear too many clothes, and even use antipyretics to reduce the temperature. Use warm water or 50% alcohol to wipe the child's body to prevent convulsions caused by high fever.

It is the common wish of every mother to be able to correctly and quickly identify the type of rash and solve the baby's pain in time. This requires mothers to study the pathogenic characteristics and clinical manifestations of the above-mentioned common rashes carefully in order to take the correct medical treatment direction and effective daily care. Otherwise, it is easy to be misled by some wrong ideas after the child becomes ill.
