What are the dangers of antibiotics to babies?

Children generally have low resistance, and they are prone to getting sick when the weather changes or during the cold season. At this time, as long as you go to the hospital or go to the pharmacy to buy medicine, the doctor will recommend some antibiotics to you. Although many babies get better after taking these medicines, I don’t know if these parents really know that antibiotics are very harmful to babies. I will tell you about the specific harm here.

Because the various organs in children's bodies are still immature, antibiotics can easily damage or potentially damage children's organs. Most importantly, they can easily cause damage to liver and kidney function because many antibiotics are metabolized through the liver and kidneys. In addition, there are aminoglycoside antibiotics, such as gentamicin and amikacin, which can easily cause deafness in children; quinolone drugs, such as ciprofloxacin, have potential damage to children's cartilage; chloramphenicol can cause bone marrow suppression and gray syndrome in children. The misuse of antibiotics can also lead to a decrease in children's resistance and an increased dependence on antibiotics. The misuse of antibiotics will also increase children's allergic reactions to drugs, easily leading to secondary infections, fungal infections, eczema, asthma and other diseases.

Monitoring data show that adverse reactions caused by antibiotics include allergic reactions such as skin itching, allergic rash and anaphylactic shock, accounting for 67%, and gastrointestinal system reactions such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea, accounting for 8%. It may also cause adverse reactions such as headache, dizziness, palpitations, and chest tightness. The misuse of antibiotics can also harm the baby's ears. Among the deaf and mute children in Beijing Deaf Children Rehabilitation Center, more than half of them became deaf due to the misuse of antibiotics. Figures from the China Deaf Children Rehabilitation Research Center show that as many as 300,000 children under the age of seven in my country have become deaf due to the irrational use of antibiotics, accounting for 30% to 40% of the total number of deaf and mute children, while the proportion in some developed countries is only 0.9%. If the doctor prescribes a large number of medicines for the child, the mother must also be vigilant. The child is not suitable for taking large amounts of medicines. The mother should ask the doctor clearly: Is it reasonable to prescribe so many medicines? Being sick is not entirely useless. When a child is sick, his immune function is mobilized, and the probability of getting sick in the future will decrease.

Here I would like to remind some parents not to regard antibiotics as a panacea. Although some cheap old medicines are slower in effectiveness and people do not use them often, they may be more effective. Although some more expensive broad-spectrum antibiotics are effective against various types of bacteria, there are many bacteria that are resistant to them and they also cause more adverse drug reactions.
