How to supplement iron for children

How to supplement iron for children

As children grow up, they cannot do without iron, an essential element for the body. In daily life, if children have bad habits of partial or picky eating, it will cause iron deficiency in the body, and the most direct harm is anemia. Therefore, proper iron supplementation is very important. So, how do children supplement iron? Let’s take a look at the common ways for children to supplement iron.

1. Let's look at vegetables first: leafy vegetables have a high iron content, with rapeseed having the highest iron content, reaching 5.9 mg/100 g; followed by shepherd's purse and amaranth; spinach, which is generally believed to be high in iron, has an iron content of only 2.9 mg/100 g, less than half of rapeseed.

2. Let's look at meat products: animal liver and blood have the highest iron content, 10-25 mg/100 g, which is about 10 times that of livestock, poultry and fish (1-3 mg/100 g); the iron in eggs is mainly concentrated in the yolk, and the content is similar to that of livestock and poultry meat.

3. The iron content of milk that babies drink every day is relatively low, only about 1/10 of that of livestock and poultry meat.

From this, it can be seen that among baby foods, both plant-based and animal-based foods, there are types with high iron content.

When a child is diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia, if the degree is mild, it is recommended to improve the anemia through reasonable dietary adjustments. Eat more animal liver and blood, and more red meat, such as pork and beef. Plant foods include black fungus, soybeans, spinach, rapeseed, celery, etc., and pay attention to the combination of meat and vegetables.

At the same time, in order to promote better absorption of iron, when feeding children these iron-rich foods, they should also be supplemented with foods rich in protein, lactose and vitamin C.

The above is an introduction to how to supplement iron for children, mainly some dietary supplements. I hope it will be helpful to parents. Obviously, once iron deficiency occurs during a child's growth, the harm caused to the child is comprehensive. Parents should pay attention to the child's growth status and ensure that the child is supplemented with enough iron so that the child can grow up healthily.
