The age of onset of papular dermatitis in children is usually 2 to 9 years old, more common in boys, and prone to occur in summer and autumn. Children often have a history of playing with sand or contact with rough surfaces. The skin lesions are polygonal or round papules ranging in size from a needle tip to a millet grain, with flat or dome tops, normal skin color, grayish white or light red, and numerous in number; the center is dense but not fused, showing mild lichenification, with scattered papules around it; sometimes the surface of the papules is covered with fine bran-like scales. It often occurs on the back of the hands, wrists and forearms, and occasionally on the elbows, knees, backs of feet and trunk. There are generally no subjective symptoms, but mild itching may occur sometimes. The disease progresses slowly and resolves on its own after a few years.
