Young children with slurred speech

Young children with slurred speech

When a child reaches the age where he can speak, if he speaks slurred, this will make parents very worried. There are many reasons for a child's slurred speech, such as habits, family factors, etc. Of course, we should be more vigilant about problems in the speech center of the brain. This situation cannot be corrected and requires timely medical treatment. Parents should pay attention to this aspect. Let's take a look at this aspect.

1. Children’s slurred speech

1. There are three main reasons why children with normal intelligence have delayed language development or unclear speech: hearing problems; abnormalities of articulation organs; and psychological and behavioral problems of children. It can manifest as abnormalities in one or more speech and language abilities, such as hearing, speaking, understanding language, expressing language, and language processing.

2. Have a hearing test to rule out hearing impairment. If a child has hearing problems and suffers from high-frequency hearing loss, he or she will not be able to hear clearly words containing the sounds z, c, and s in pinyin, which will affect 95% of the speech clarity, so the child will learn fewer words and pronounce them incorrectly. Current newborn hearing screening technology can perform hearing tests on infants and young children 3 days after birth, determine their hearing status within 3 months, and provide hearing rehabilitation and enhanced language training before they begin babbling (within 1 year old).

2. How to treat baby's slurred speech

Treatment mainly includes etiological treatment, language training and psychotherapy. Some parents think that if their children start speaking late, are spoiled, have unclear enunciation and inaccurate pronunciation, they will get better as they grow up and it is not necessarily a problem. However, there are many children who come to the doctor for unclear speech at the age of three or four and are eventually diagnosed with abnormalities. In several cases, the parents were reminded by kindergarten teachers. In addition, most parents only raise one child in their lifetime, so it is difficult for them to judge how early or late the child starts to speak and whether the child is good or bad. If you have any questions, it is better to go to the hospital for treatment in time.

The above are the basic problems of slurred speech in 4-year-old babies. Generally, they need to be checked. Some are caused by habits, some are hearing impairments or problems with the speech center. The baby’s language training must be strengthened. It is best to treat it in time after discovery. Some babies may also have psychological problems.
