What are the key points for preventing accidental injuries among children of different ages?

Of course, everyone hopes that their children can grow up healthily. It is for this reason that accidental injury is one of the important factors that affect children's health. Accidental injuries to children of different age groups are different. Prevention is necessary at this time to avoid injuries. Therefore, parents should understand the key points of accidental injury prevention for children of different age groups, so as to effectively prevent them.

The focus of accidental injury prevention for children of different age groups should be said to be different. Therefore, targeted and differentiated treatment should be carried out to avoid accidental injuries to children. This is the most critical and most important thing. Parents must do it.

1. Be especially careful about broken teeth in children under 3 years old

"We basically encounter two or three cases of accidental oral injuries every day, and it happens to children of all ages, but parents of children under three years old should pay special attention." Chief physician Ruan Wenhua, director of the provincial pediatric dental department, said that because children under three years old have just learned to walk, the chance of falling is relatively high, and the oral tissues are the first to be affected after a fall, and children often suffer crooked or broken teeth. "The child's tooth tissue is still in the growth stage. After a tooth is broken, try to send the child and the broken tooth to the hospital within half an hour. This can greatly increase the survival rate of the broken tooth." Ruan Wenhua reminded that if conditions permit, parents should put the broken tooth in milk or saline. If conditions do not permit, just put the tooth back into the mouth. "A broken tooth that falls on the ground may be covered with dirt, but parents should never use tap water to clean it," said Ruan Wenhua, because the periodontal membrane on the broken tooth may be washed away in this way.

2. Children aged 2-7 like to swallow foreign objects most

In the gastroscopy room of the Provincial Children's Hospital, a box is filled with small items such as coins, toy accessories, needles, keys, etc. "There are many children who swallow foreign objects, ranging from 8 months to over 10 years old, but the most common ones are children aged 2-7 years old, because children at this stage are very curious about all kinds of objects and like to explore the mysteries with their mouths." said Li Zhongyue, deputy chief physician of the Gastroenterology Department of Provincial Children's Health Center. "As parents, we should keep small objects, especially sharp objects, away to reduce the chances of children swallowing foreign objects," said Li Zhongyue. If you find that your child has swallowed a foreign object, do not scare the child or try to help the child defecate by feeding water or food. This is because children under 5 years old generally cannot excrete foreign objects such as coins on their own after swallowing them. They must be sent to the hospital, and try to keep the child quiet on the way, because the more the child cries, the more likely an accident will occur.

3. Children aged 0-6 are most likely to be scalded

The Ministry of Health once conducted a survey and found that accidental death of children is the leading cause of death among children aged 0-14 in my country. The rate of burns and scalds among children aged 0 to 6 years old accounted for 23% of burns and scald patients, among which 1 year old (34.3%) was the highest, 2 years old (29.5%) was the second, and 3 years old (13.7%) was the third. The most common cause of injury was scalds caused by hot liquids (46%), while scalds caused by overheated bath water decreased significantly. "As a parent, don't let your children face hot soup alone. Many times, your child may be scalded the moment you turn around," said Zhao Xiong, deputy chief physician of the Provincial Children's Health Center's Burns and Plastic Surgery Department. When parents take their children to visit a friend's house, they should pay attention to the placement of hot containers to prevent the children from bumping into them. "For the scalded area, you can quickly rinse it with plenty of clean cold water. Be sure not to blindly use some folk remedies to apply on the wound." Zhao Xiong gave examples, such as soy sauce, paste, flour, sesame oil, baking soda, etc. These practices may contaminate the scald wound at the very least, or cause chemical burns on the wound at the worst, making the child more painful.

Therefore, parents should pay special attention to the prevention of accidental injuries among children of all ages. In addition to effectively preventing accidental injuries, another key issue is to pay attention to the occurrence of accidental injuries and understand the methods of first aid so as to minimize the damage.
