Premature baby limb twitching

Premature baby limb twitching

The reason why women need to be extra careful in the late stages of pregnancy is that if they are not careful, the baby may be born prematurely. Premature babies are generally very unhealthy, and their physical fitness is much lower than that of normal babies, so it is very common for them to have some abnormal reactions. Some parents have found that their premature babies have twitching hands and feet. Is this normal?

Infantile Tetany

Infantile tetany is common in infants under 6 months old. It is mainly due to vitamin D deficiency in the body, which leads to low serum calcium, increased neuromuscular excitability, and symptoms such as convulsions, laryngeal spasm and tetany.

The human body's vitamin D is mainly synthesized after sunlight hits the skin. In winter, babies lack outdoor activities and are rarely exposed to direct sunlight, so vitamin D deficiency reaches its peak. The increase in sunshine in spring can cause a sudden increase in vitamin D in the body, promote the transfer of large amounts of blood calcium to the bones, and reduce blood calcium. At this time, if the baby's parathyroid function is hypofunctioning and cannot increase compensatory secretion, the blood calcium level will continue to decrease, which may lead to the occurrence of infantile tetany.

Tip: For babies who are exclusively breastfed, do not receive vitamin D supplements on a regular basis, or have rickets, when spring comes, they should be supplemented with vitamin D and calcium for a period of time to bring blood calcium levels to normal levels, and then the baby should be taken outdoors to bask in the sun.

epilepsy

As the temperature rises in spring, the capillaries in the skin and muscles are in a state of slow dilation, and the blood flow to the brain is reduced accordingly, making you more prone to fatigue. In addition, the weather is changeable, which can easily cause the body to become uncomfortable, making it a high-incidence season for epilepsy.

Tips: Children with epilepsy should pay attention to a balanced diet in the spring, avoid being too hungry or too full, and do not overeat; avoid walking near water to prevent drowning due to a sudden attack; try not to ride a bicycle to prevent falls during an attack.

Febrile seizures

Febrile seizures are the most common convulsive disorders accompanied by fever in children. Febrile convulsions often occur in the early stages of febrile illness, with a sudden rise in body temperature (mostly to 39 degrees Celsius), manifested by sudden onset, systemic or local muscle rigidity or paroxysmal convulsions, and may be accompanied by loss of consciousness, upward rolling of the eyes, staring or squinting, clenched jaw, irregular breathing, and cyanosis. Generally, the symptoms will be relieved within a few seconds to a few minutes. After the attack, the child recovered as normal except for the manifestations of the primary disease. During a single sexual episode, most cases only occur once, some may have two attacks, and a small number of febrile convulsions may later turn into epilepsy.

What causes convulsions in babies' hands and feet? We should learn more about this knowledge. If symptoms of convulsions occur, we should get checked immediately. Only through examination can we confirm what disease it is. If it is childhood epilepsy, we should choose appropriate treatment methods to avoid some harm.
