What materials are good for children's dental fillings?

There are actually quite a lot of materials that can be used when filling children's teeth, and there are many types to choose from, but you should still listen to the doctor's advice before making a choice, so as to avoid any situation that is detrimental to children's teeth. In addition, it is best to choose materials that do not cause much damage to the teeth, which can also allow children to recover faster during the recovery period.

advantage

Silver amalgam has been used in dentistry for hundreds of years, and there is currently no evidence that the solidified silver amalgam is harmful to the human body.

1. Silver-mercury alloy is used to fill the back teeth to avoid the pain caused by filling with resin materials.

2. It can restore the contact point very well and avoid the problem of food getting stuck in the teeth after filling, but it requires the doctor to have superb skills.

3. If secondary caries occurs many years later, the filling can be easily removed without damaging the normal tooth.

shortcoming

1. Silver amalgam has a bad color, but the color doesn’t really matter on the back teeth.

2. Cavity preparation requires high technical skills, and many doctors cannot prepare standard Class II cavities.

The doctor should prepare a standard cavity shape, preferably under local anesthesia, remove all decayed tissue, lay a good foundation and then fill the tooth. The doctor should also repair the adjacent relationship to prevent food from getting stuck in the tooth after the operation.

Treatment of toothache

After going to the hospital for treatment of dental disease, toothache sometimes occurs again. This may be caused by the following situations:

First, due to the need for treatment, the dental pulp is devitalized (commonly known as killing the nerves). Toothache may occur on the day or the next day after the devitalization drug is applied due to the effect of the drug, but the pain will not be severe and will not last for a long time.

The second reason is that during the process of preparing the cavity for the filling or because the disinfectant stimulates the pulp, short-term hot or cold stimulation pain may occur. Such situations do not require special treatment and generally recover on their own after 1 to 2 days.

Third, the caries cavity is deep and the padding material used is too thin to block the hot and cold stimulation conducted by the silver-mercury alloy, resulting in symptoms of hot and cold stimulation pain. This requires thickening the base material before filling.

The reason for irritation pain or spontaneous pain after tooth filling may be that certain chemicals in the filling material stimulate the pulp or apical tissue; it may also be caused by incomplete pulp devitalization.

The long-term cause of pain is often secondary caries complicated by pulpitis. Pulp soothing or other endodontic treatment should be performed depending on the specific situation. If biting pain occurs, it is mostly caused by the filling material being too high, resulting in premature contact when biting. After a few days of adjustment, you will return to normal.
