Is it normal for a baby to have protruding frontal bones?

The frontal bone is one of the 29 bones that make up the skull. The human forehead can be divided into three parts. These places are generally flat under normal circumstances, but many parents will find that the baby's frontal bone begins to protrude, and the protrusion is quite obvious. In fact, most of this is due to personal head development problems and is not necessarily related to pathological factors.

Frontal bone, one of the 29 bones that make up the skull. Located on the forehead. It consists of three parts: Frontal squama: large and vertical, on the forehead. Part of the orbit: Circular or horizontal, essential for the formation of the orbital roof and nasal cavity. Nose: Articulates with the nasal bones and frontal processes of the jaws at the base of the nose.

It is connected to the ethmoid bone and nasal bone anteriorly and to the parietal bone posteriorly through the coronal suture. There is a cavity in the frontal bone at the lower frontal area called the frontal sinus.

Embryology

The frontal bone is believed to be derived from neural crest cells.

edge

The margin of the frontal scales is thick and distinctly serrated, with the upper inner surface being chamfered to join it to the parietal bones, with the outer surfaces on either side bearing the lateral pressure of these bones; the margin extends downward into a triangular rough surface, articulating with the greater wing of the sphenoid bone. The posterior margin of the orbital plate is narrow and serrated, articulating with the lesser wing of the sphenoid bone.

Other Animals

Most vertebrates have a pair of frontal bones rather than a single piece like humans, and they are generally located at the top of the head, between the eyes, but in many non-mammals they do not form part of the nasal cavity. In reptiles, bony fish, and amphibians, it is separated from the orbit by one or two additional bones, but this phenomenon is not found in mammals. The anterior and posterior frontal bones together form the superior orbital margin, which may fall to either side of the frontal bone.
