Baby sneezes and has a runny nose in summer

Summer is a relatively hot season, and it is relatively rare for babies to have symptoms of cold and runny nose at this time. However, some babies do have symptoms of cold and runny nose in summer. This is mainly caused by rhinitis, so you should clean up the rhinitis and avoid contact with allergic rhinitis, especially pollen or allergic drugs. This will help you effectively treat your baby's runny nose. Let’s take a look at how to treat baby’s runny nose in summer.

What to do if your baby has a runny nose and sneezes in summer

1. Rub both sides of the nose

When your baby has a runny nose due to a cold, you can try massaging both sides of the nose. Use the back of your thumb to rub up and down along both sides of the bridge of your nose 10 times, rubbing upwards to the bottom of your eyes and downwards to the sides of your nostrils. After repeated friction, the blood circulation in the nasal cavity will speed up, the inhaled air will become warmer, and the secretion of mucus will be curbed to a certain extent, which is conducive to recovery from a cold.

2. Hot compress on the nostrils

When you have a runny nose due to a cold, you can soak gauze or a small towel in hot water, gently wring it dry, and apply it to your nostrils several times. This can help relieve the symptoms of a runny nose. Because the nasal mucosa shrinks when exposed to heat, the nasal cavity will be more unobstructed and the sticky nasal mucus will be easier to hydrate and flow out. Be careful that the temperature of the hot towel should not be too high to avoid burning the child's skin.

3. Diet therapy to relieve colds with onions and ginger slices

Ingredients: 10 grams of onion, 3 grams of ginger, and appropriate amount of brown sugar.

Preparation: Wash and slice the onion and ginger, put them into a casserole with sugar, add appropriate amount of water, boil for 10 minutes, take the juice and drink it while it is hot. After drinking, you should cover yourself with a blanket to induce slight sweating.

Efficacy: sweating and relieving exterior symptoms. It is suitable for symptoms such as exogenous wind-cold, headache, cough, chills, nasal congestion and clear runny nose.

How to prevent allergic rhinitis

1. Air conditioner filter

Clean the air conditioner filter every 1-2 weeks. Don't be lazy.

2. Plush toys, carpets, bed sheets and quilts

(1) It is best not to buy plush toys for your baby. If you really like them, be sure to clean them frequently.

(2) Do not lay carpets. Carpets are difficult to clean and are a hotbed of mites.

(3) Bed sheets, quilts, pillowcases, baby towels, etc. should be washed and dried regularly.

3. Outdoors, parks, and picnic areas

Mothers all like to take their babies out to play, but they must be careful when going out! Don’t think that you are prone to pollen allergies only when the spring flowers are in full bloom. Often in summer and autumn, when flowers are less common, people neglect protection and are more likely to inhale pollen and suffer from allergies.

Pollen allergic rhinitis in summer and autumn is prevalent in mid-August every year. Not only visible flowers have pollen. Many "grasses" that you would never imagine, such as wormwood and sedge pollen, are the most common allergenic pollens in summer and autumn. Therefore, babies who are allergic to pollen should take precautions except in winter.

(1) When taking your baby out, especially to places with flowers and plants, you must wear a mask.

(2) It is best to have a purifier at home as pollen can also enter the house through the windows.

(3) Your baby may be allergic to only a certain type of pollen, so keep him away from that type of flower.
