Ten-month-old baby always sleeps due to pneumonia symptoms

Newborn babies have just come into this world from their mother's womb. They have weak body resistance and do not have the ability to resist bacteria. They are often easily disturbed by bacteria and cause some infectious inflammation, which is also something that parents are very worried about. When a ten-month-old baby shows symptoms of pneumonia and sleeps all the time, parents must not take it lightly. At this time, it is very necessary to understand some relevant knowledge about inflammation.

1. When a respiratory infection occurs, it is important not only to understand the site of the disease, but also the cause of the infection, and especially the severity of the disease. Do not be intimidated by medical terms.

The respiratory system includes the respiratory tract (nasal cavity, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi) and lungs. Among respiratory infections, "pneumonia" is only the one with the deepest infection site, but not necessarily the most serious one.

The severity of a disease is evaluated not based on the name of the disease, the site of the disease, or simply on the type of pathogenic microorganism... The severity of a disease is mainly determined by clinical manifestations.

Simply put, severe "laryngitis", severe "bronchitis", and severe "pneumonia" will all manifest as difficulty breathing and are very serious conditions; mild "laryngitis", mild "bronchitis", and mild "pneumonia" are generally in good condition and are relatively mild conditions.

2. The symptoms of acute laryngitis and bronchiolitis are often more serious than common pneumonia. And pneumonia can completely get better after treatment.

Pneumonia is not necessarily caused by "bacterial infection"

There are many causes of lung infection that can lead to pneumonia.

Most pneumonia is caused by viral infections, such as respiratory syncytial virus, influenza virus, parainfluenza virus, adenovirus, etc.; some are caused by bacterial infections, such as pneumococcus, Haemophilus influenzae, Staphylococcus, etc.; in recent years, pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection has also been on the rise.

Of course, viral infection will weaken the function of the child's immune system to a certain extent, and bacteria may take advantage of the situation and cause secondary infection based on the primary viral infection.

3. Pneumonia is not caused by fever or coughing.

Not all upper respiratory tract infections develop into pneumonia. The common cold does not easily turn into pneumonia. Children whose immune or respiratory functions are weakened by other diseases, such as congenital heart disease, are at higher risk.

Fever and cough are just some of the symptoms of pneumonia, not the causes of pneumonia. Inflammation in any part of the respiratory system may cause symptoms such as fever and cough, so fever and cough are not necessarily pneumonia.

Diagnosis of pneumonia

4. Mainly based on the symptoms and signs of the disease.

The typical symptoms and signs that distinguish it from the common cold are: mental depression, rapid or slow breathing, labored breathing (in infants, it manifests as nodding breathing), increased activity of the intercostal, substernal and supraclavicular respiratory muscles (clinically known as the three-recess syndrome), flaring of the nose, cyanosis of the lips, nasolabial grooves and fingertips, chest pain when coughing or taking a deep breath, and fixed medium and fine moist rales heard when auscultating the lungs.

To confirm the diagnosis and determine the extent of infection of lung lesions, chest X-ray is very helpful, and blood and sputum bacterial culture are helpful in the etiological diagnosis and treatment.
