What to do if your baby's eyes are stung by peppers

Chili is a seasoning vegetable often used in people's lives. Although chili peppers are very delicious to eat, they are very troublesome to handle. If people's eyes are stung by chili peppers, it will be very painful. Children love to play by nature. If they play with peppers, they are very likely to get burned by the peppers. So, what should you do if your baby's eyes are burned by peppers?

1. First of all, avoid closing your eyes or blinking frequently . When pepper gets into your eyes, it is mainly the capsaicin that irritates the eyes and causes pain. Blinking quickly will only make it spread more, so you should rinse with plenty of cold water as soon as possible.

2. Capsaicin is insoluble in water but soluble in alcohol . You can use alcohol to clean areas other than the eyes to reduce the burning sensation, but alcohol is too irritating to the eyes and should not be used.

3. In theory, capsaicin is alkaline and can be neutralized with acetic acid , but this is only theoretical. It is hard to say whether capsaicin and vinegar can react or produce new substances, and vinegar itself may also be harmful to the eyes. If the effect is unclear, it is best not to recommend it.

4. As for eye drops, it mainly depends on the ingredients. Eye drops containing borneol may have a certain analgesic effect.

5. Of course, the best way is to wash with plenty of water. Cold water can help relieve pain and stimulation.

6. Chili peppers can irritate the skin and mucous membranes, causing congestion, redness and swelling. If the child is in good condition, apply taurine eye drops or Tobrex eye drops to the eyes to prevent infection. Applying cold compresses to the eyes can help reduce eyelid redness and swelling.

7. For babies aged 20 months, you can consider flushing their eyes with breast milk. If not available, you can use milk.
