Child with high fever and foaming at the mouth

Child with high fever and foaming at the mouth

Fever is a very common disease in children. However, if a child has a fever, especially a high fever, parents must pay attention to it. It is best to take the child to the hospital for examination and treatment in time. Some children foam at the mouth when they have a high fever. In this case, it is best to seek medical treatment. It may be that the baby has other diseases. Failure to treat it in time may cause serious harm to the child.

What is the cause of foaming at the mouth when a child has a high fever?

A child with a high fever and foaming at the mouth is a symptom caused by febrile convulsions, epilepsy, and brain nerve dysfunction. To determine whether it is epilepsy or febrile convulsion, it is best to go to the hospital for a brain MRI, EEG, blood routine, and electrolyte check, and then provide symptomatic treatment based on the test results.

What are the causes of febrile seizures in babies?

1. Caused by infectious diseases

There are intracranial infections, such as meningitis, encephalitis, and brain abscess; there are also extracranial infections, such as respiratory tract infections and toxic encephalopathy.

2. Caused by non-infectious diseases

There are intracranial diseases, such as primary epilepsy, intracranial hemorrhage, abnormal brain development, etc.; there are also extracranial diseases, such as poisoning, water and electrolyte disorders, hypoglycemia, uremia, etc.

So what emergency measures should be taken when the baby has bleeding, high fever and convulsions?

First of all, ensure that the child's airway is open.

The child should be laid flat with his head tilted to one side, his collar should be unbuttoned, and any foreign objects or secretions in his mouth and nasal cavity should be cleared. At the same time, wrap chopsticks with gauze or cotton strips, place them between the baby's teeth, and let the child bite them to prevent him from biting himself.

Secondly, control the symptoms of convulsions.

While keeping the surrounding environment relatively quiet, press acupoints such as Hegu with your fingers. Also, try not to move the child to avoid irritating the child, causing another or aggravating the extraction. It should also be noted that when the child is convulsing, you should not forcibly press the child's limbs, otherwise it is easy to cause damage to the baby's limbs.

Then, the child needs to be cooled down.

There are many ways to cool down, including the following three:

1. Cold compress cooling method.

Place a cold towel on the child's forehead, palms, thighs, etc., or use a fever-reducing patch. But while cooling down, you should also pay attention to keeping your baby warm.

2. Use warm water to cool down.

Use a warm water towel to wipe the baby's body repeatedly, focusing on the neck, armpits, groin and other areas.

3. Drug cooling method

If you use drugs to reduce fever, you should be particularly careful. Antipyretic suppositories should be used when the baby has not yet regained consciousness. Do not give your baby medicine until he is conscious. If you force-feed medicine to your baby while he is convulsing, it may cause dangerous situations such as choking and suffocation.

Finally, if your baby shows symptoms of high fever convulsions, he or she should be taken to the doctor immediately to avoid recurrence of the disease. Bangma would also like to remind all parents that when your baby has a high fever convulsion, you must remain calm and not panic. The more panicked you are, the easier it is to make mistakes.
