Symptoms of hypotonia in premature infants

Premature babies have low muscle tone, which is an abnormal phenomenon. It has a great impact on the child. Generally speaking, after examination, the child's brain often has certain damage problems, which is also a symptom of cerebral palsy. At four months, these symptoms will gradually become obvious, such as poor movement, squinting or poor eye movement, etc.

Symptoms of hypotonia in premature infants

If the baby's body movement decreases for more than 4 months, it can be diagnosed as severe brain damage, mental retardation and muscle system disease. Fixed posture: It is often caused by abnormal muscle tension due to brain damage, such as opisthotonos, frog position, inverted U-shaped posture, etc. Abnormal head circumference can be seen one month after birth: Brain damage often causes abnormal head circumference;

If it reaches 2-4 months, the symptoms may become more obvious. Possibly poor weight gain and weak breastfeeding; unable to smile at 2 months and unable to laugh at 4 months; if the baby still cannot open his/her hands at 4 months, or the thumb is adducted, especially on one upper limb, it has important diagnostic significance; if the baby is 3-4 months old and has body twisting, it often indicates extrapyramidal damage. The inability to lift the head when lying prone at 4 months old or the inability to keep the head upright when sitting is often an important sign of brain damage. When a baby aged 3-4 months has strabismus and poor eye movements, it may indicate the presence of brain damage.

It can be seen that children with cerebral palsy actually show symptoms of low muscle tone when they are relatively young, but many parents neglect the diagnosis and treatment of the disease due to lack of common sense. Some parents only discover it when the children are older, at which time treatment becomes difficult.

Symptoms of high muscle tone in babies

1. In daily life, this is a typical manifestation. Children with high muscle tone are often more irritable, startled by sounds, crying continuously, having trouble falling asleep, having difficulty inserting their arms into sleeves when dressing, having difficulty opening their fists when bathing, and their whole body immediately becomes stiff when their lower limbs enter the bathtub or the water. Babies with high muscle tone have their lower limbs straightened, adducted and crossed in a scissor shape. When your baby shows the above symptoms, everyone must pay attention.

2. Sometimes babies will have muscle tension. There is no objective instrument to measure whether the muscle tension is too high. It depends entirely on the doctor's feel and experience. Sometimes the baby's lack of cooperation may be misjudged as a manifestation of high muscle tension. For example, during the examination, the baby is unwilling and his legs are stretched straight.

In addition, when a child stands, he or she will stand on tiptoe at first, but generally the child will slowly put his or her feet flat; but a child with high muscle tone will always stand on tiptoe like that, and you may not be able to put his or her feet flat even if you press down with your hands.

3. In addition to the above symptoms, babies with high muscle tone have tighter muscles than those of ordinary children and are more difficult to move, which is also a manifestation of high muscle tone in babies.
