Adverse reactions to pertussis vaccine

Adverse reactions to pertussis vaccine

Whooping cough is a relatively common disease. As a means of prevention, you can inject the oral whooping cough vaccine. The whooping cough vaccine is a mixed vaccine of tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough. It is very effective in preventing babies from developing these three diseases. After the injection of this vaccine, children are prone to some adverse reactions, sometimes experiencing pain, slight fever, etc. Generally, these are normal physiological phenomena and do not require special treatment.

Adverse reactions to DTP vaccine

After receiving the DTP vaccine, some babies will develop redness at the injection site within 24 hours. The babies will feel pain and have a slight fever, which usually lasts for 2-3 days. Some babies may experience swollen lymph nodes on the side of the contact area. This is a common reaction to the DTP vaccine and does not require any special treatment.

When the injection site is obviously red and swollen and covers a large area, and the baby continues to cry, it is an aggravated reaction to the DTP vaccine. Mothers need to use a hot towel to help the baby relieve the pain, and the effect will be better if supplemented with massage. If the baby continues to have a high fever or has other abnormal reactions at this time, it is best to seek medical treatment.

Rashes rarely occur after receiving the DPT vaccine, but if they do occur, it may be caused by allergies and you will need to take anti-allergic drugs under the doctor's advice.

Angioedema is occasionally seen, with the main manifestation being slight fever, accompanied by transient symptoms such as fatigue, drowsiness, irritability, etc. This condition is more common after vaccination with non-adsorbed vaccines.

When a baby has reactions such as convulsions, twitching, screaming, etc. after vaccination, it is an abnormal reaction. The incidence of this type of reaction is extremely low and is mostly related to the ingredients in the vaccine. It is best to seek medical attention in a timely manner.

Management of adverse reactions to diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccines

When a baby experiences adverse reactions after receiving the DTP vaccine, you should carefully observe whether the baby's reaction is abnormal. If symptoms include normal fever and redness and swelling at the injection site, no special treatment is required.

If the reaction is more severe, you can use local hot compresses or stick raw potato slices on the areas with obvious redness and swelling. The hot compresses should be applied 3-5 times a day for 10-15 minutes each time. It can remove the lumps and help relieve the baby's pain.

Pay attention to the temperature of the towel here. Make it as hot as possible, but make sure it doesn't burn the baby. If the redness and swelling do not go away after hot compress, physical therapy can be performed.

If your baby's temperature is lower than 38.5℃ when he has a fever, make sure your baby drinks more water and gets more rest; if your baby's temperature exceeds 38.5℃, take appropriate measures to relieve it.

If the patient has a high fever and convulsions, it is best to seek medical attention and ask the doctor whether the vaccination can be repeated the next time.

If a rash occurs, anti-allergic treatment should be given under the guidance of a doctor. If other abnormal reactions occur, it is best to seek medical treatment and inform the doctor of the baby's reaction so that the doctor can make a correct diagnosis.
