Newborn choked on saliva and coughed

Newborn choked on saliva and coughed

Most newborns drink their mother's milk or breast milk to maintain their lives, so babies drink milk while lying down. Lying down to drink milk will cause many babies to choke on saliva. After the saliva enters the trachea from the mouth, it will make the baby cough constantly. In this case, parents can gently pat the baby's back and try to avoid letting the baby drink milk while lying down. So what should I do if the newborn chokes on saliva and coughs?

The swallowing function of babies in the confinement period is not fully developed, and because their salivary glands are not well developed, they produce more honey in their saliva, so they are very prone to coughing and choking. As long as it does not happen frequently, it is generally normal. The baby is still young and sometimes he will inhale air, so he will choke. As long as he is in a good mental state and has no other abnormal symptoms, there should be no problem, and he will be fine as he grows older. When you choke while swallowing saliva, you can lie on your right side, slowly pick you up, and pat your back to avoid inhalation into the trachea causing coughing. There is no good method. As the baby grows older, the salivary gland secretion decreases and the swallowing function improves, and everything will gradually get better.

When a baby has this condition, the cough is mostly caused by choking. It is recommended to pat the baby's back more often after each feeding and try to sleep on the side to prevent vomiting from aggravating choking. It is best to go to the hospital for a chest X-ray to rule out lung inflammation. At present, the baby's symptoms may include phlegm in the throat. If there is no cough or difficulty breathing, the baby's spirit and feeding are normal, and there are no other discomfort symptoms, the phlegm can usually be absorbed by itself, so just pay attention and observe.

Western medicine generally treats colds with anti-cold virus treatment, using drugs such as Zhongganling, Suxiao, Tylenol, etc. If symptoms of coughing occur, cough suppressants such as Kexuting and Kebiqing will also be needed. If a high fever occurs, Chaihu needle and Qingkailing or Nimesulide should be used to reduce fever. If you have a cold, remember to drink plenty of water, reduce going out and visiting crowded places, and do not eat spicy and irritating foods.
