Three-year-old baby suddenly has a fever

Three-year-old baby suddenly has a fever

Usually if people have a fever it is because of a cold or inflammation in the body, so most clinics will do a blood test before treating patients with fever to see if there is inflammation in the body. Babies have relatively weak resistance, so many parents will ask their children to avoid crowded places as much as possible during the peak influenza season to prevent their three-year-old babies from suddenly having a fever. Let’s take a look at the possible causes of a sudden fever.

1. What is the reason for a sudden high fever?

1. Cold symptoms: acute inflammation or influenza

(1) Acute inflammation

Fever is generally an inflammatory response. Generally speaking, a sudden outbreak of high fever (38.5℃-40℃) usually means that there is a bacterial infection in the body. Acute inflammations such as colds, pneumonia, meningitis, scarlet fever, etc. are accompanied by high fever.

(2) Influenza

If your child has the following symptoms, then it can be determined that your child has type B influenza: first, a sudden fever (usually a high fever of around 39 degrees), body aches and weakness, and fear of cold; followed by respiratory system symptoms such as runny nose, cough, sore throat, headache, etc., and a small number of vomiting and diarrhea.

In addition, the symptoms after influenza A infection mainly include high fever, cough, runny nose, myalgia, etc., most of which are accompanied by severe pneumonia. In severe cases, multiple organ failure such as heart and kidney leads to death, and the mortality rate is very high.

Of course, the clinical symptoms caused by influenza A and B viruses are very similar, but runny nose, abdominal pain and gastrointestinal symptoms are more common in type B than in type A.

2. No cold symptoms: Roseola infantum

However, if your baby is under 2 years old and suddenly develops a high fever without any cold symptoms, you need to be alert to roseola infantum. Generally speaking, at this age, if the baby suddenly has a fever for two days, it can be suspected that the baby has roseola infantum. Roseola infantum is a common disease in early infancy. Most children have had this disease before the age of 2. The main symptom is a sudden high fever, which usually lasts about 3-5 days, and then a pink spotted rash appears all over the body. Roseola infantum, also known as roseola infantum, is an acute infectious disease in children caused by a virus. Clinically, it is characterized by sudden onset of fever and the appearance of rash after the fever subsides.

Babies over 6 months old have no signs of a cold in the early stages but suddenly develop a fever. Generally, if the temperature reaches 38-39℃ immediately, you should suspect the possibility of roseola infantum. When you go to the hospital for a check-up, you will usually find that your throat is slightly red and there may even be swollen lymph nodes in your neck. Although most babies have high fever, they are still in good spirits and their appetite is not affected. However, as the disease progresses, cold symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, and coughing may appear. A few babies may become irritable, vomit, have diarrhea, and lose their appetite.
