Neonatal sputum sound

Neonatal sputum sound

Some parents will find that their newborn babies have phlegm sounds. This may be caused by the baby's uncomfortable sleeping posture at night, so parents should always pay attention to whether the baby has any abnormalities. Some babies have phlegm in their throats and will have phlegm sounds. If parents ignore it at this time, the baby may develop pneumonia. Therefore, if you find that your baby has sputum sound, you should treat it in time. Let’s take a look at what causes this.

What is the reason for the sputum sound in a one-month-old newborn?

Generally, this situation is the stridor of the newborn, which is most obvious at one and a half to two months. This phenomenon slowly disappears after 6 months. Newborns should start taking cod liver oil and calcium supplements at half a month. If the baby does not sleep well, it may be caused by calcium deficiency. The baby will cry at night and rub his head against the pillow. Cod liver oil mainly promotes the absorption of calcium. If the baby is breastfeeding, it is recommended that the mother take calcium and the baby take cod liver oil. If the baby is milk-fed, the baby should take calcium and cod liver oil together.

In another situation, auscultation is needed to determine whether it is caused by bacterial infection or choking on amniotic fluid, or the child is too young and has poor resistance, and may develop a cold or tracheitis after a slight cold. So even though the child doesn't have a cough, he has phlegm and seems to be having trouble breathing. There is a possibility of suffering from the above diseases.

What to do if your newborn has sputum sound

1. First of all, don’t let the indoor air be too dry. If conditions permit, a humidifier can be used to adjust the air humidity.

2. Oral cod liver oil is needed for treatment to help the absorption of calcium and prevent rickets.

3. Mothers should eat more foods high in calcium and can take maternal calcium tablets to supplement calcium.

4. If it is a cold or tracheitis, anti-inflammatory, antiviral and expectorant treatments can be given. However, because the children are too young, many medicines cannot be used casually, and the condition changes quickly, so it is recommended to take the children to a regular hospital's pediatric department in time, and let the doctor guide the medication after a clear diagnosis.

Newborns who have just turned one month old are still very delicate and sensitive to the external environment. Therefore, some symptoms are more likely to occur. If this kind of sputum sound occurs, the baby's parents must pay enough attention to it. Be sure to find out the cause. If the cause is unknown or you feel you cannot handle it or don’t know how to handle it, go to the hospital as soon as possible to diagnose and treat your baby.
