If you find that your child has a lot of secretions in his or her eyes, parents need to pay attention to it. This phenomenon is definitely abnormal. There are three main reasons that lead to this situation, namely internal canal stenosis, conjunctivitis and inflammation. 1. Tear duct stenosis Our tears can keep our eyes moist and prevent the invasion of foreign matter, dust and other objects that may cause eye damage or vision loss. This plays an important role in maintaining our good vision. In fact, our eyes are secreting tears all the time, but the tears secreted flow quietly from our nasal cavity and throat after circulating in the eyes. This can also moisten the nasal cavity and protect our nasal mucosa tissue. We call this small tube connecting the eye and the nasal cavity the "tear ductule". The lacrimal duct itself is very small and very easy to be blocked. In addition, the upper entrance of the nasolacrimal duct of some newborn babies is covered with mucous membrane, which is left behind because it did not disappear in time before and after birth. Therefore, nasolacrimal duct obstruction is a very common disease for newborn babies. 2. Conjunctivitis Conjunctivitis has nothing to do with tear duct stenosis; it is caused by an eye infection. It can be divided into bacterial conjunctivitis and viral conjunctivitis. The viruses or bacteria that cause conjunctivitis in newborns may be caused by infection of the mother's birth canal during normal delivery. Either type of conjunctivitis can cause redness under your baby's eyelids or the whites of their eyes. But how do we distinguish them specifically? We recommend that mothers distinguish the two by the accompanying symptoms before seeking medical attention in time: the accompanying symptom of bacterial conjunctivitis may cause an increase in sticky yellow secretions; the accompanying symptom of viral conjunctivitis is an increase in clear tears. For bacterial conjunctivitis, antibiotic eye drops are needed, and the use of drugs should be carried out under the guidance of a doctor. Doctors generally recommend the use of Tobrex. However, viral conjunctivitis will not improve with antibiotics. In this case, the mother should carefully clean the baby's eyes and remove the secretions. After a few days, the virus will collapse and disintegrate. 3. Getting angry The increase in eye mucus is caused by getting angry, which is a term in traditional Chinese medicine. This situation often occurs in autumn and winter. Because the baby's body is relatively lacking in water, this symptom may occur. We judge whether the baby is suffering from internal heat mainly by the accompanying symptom - the color of the baby's urine. If the baby's urine is yellow and his mouth or tongue is red, mothers may consider whether he has a sore throat. If this happens, do not cover the baby too much. The condition will generally improve after being fed appropriate amounts of water. |
