What to do if your child refuses to use eye drops

What to do if your child refuses to use eye drops

I believe many people know about eye drops. This is a commonly used medicine to treat eye diseases and keep the eyes moist. But many people also know about eye drops. Due to their unique way of use, they are usually dropped into the eyes, which can cause discomfort in the eyes. This causes many children to feel disgusted when eye drops are used. Children often don't like to use eye drops, so what should we do if they still don't want to use eye drops?

Method 1

Have your child lie on his back or sit up with his head tilted back slightly and his eyes looking up. Use the left thumb or a cotton swab to gently pull open the child's lower eyelid to expose the inferior conjunctival sac. Hold the eye dropper or eye dropper in your right hand and drop the eye drops into the conjunctival sac. Then lift the upper eyelid slightly and gently close it so that the entire conjunctival sac is filled with eye drops. Try not to blink, use one finger to gently press the corner of the eye on the side of the nose for 1 or 2 minutes, then wipe off the excess medicine with a clean tissue.

Method 2: Parents can let the children close their eyes and drop the eye drops into the inner canthus according to the doctor's instructions on the dosage. After putting the eye drops in, open your eyes and rotate your eyeballs to allow the medicine to enter the eyes.

In fact, as early as 1991, a British scientist conducted an experiment on 10 healthy adults, using these two different methods of drug drops: The results showed that the bioavailability of the two drug drop methods was very similar, that is, the second method of use did not affect the clinical effect. Therefore, if children do not cooperate with eye drops, you can try the second method, and maybe the children will not be so afraid.

Precautions

Interval time

If you use more than two kinds of eye drops, you need to wait for 5-10 minutes; otherwise, the latter eye drops will wash out the previous ones and affect the absorption effect.

Separation distance

The mouth of the medicine bottle should be kept more than 1 cm away from the eyes and should not touch the eyelashes. Eye drops and eye ointments should be used by one person only to avoid cross infection.

Preservation and storage

Generally, the shelf life of eye drops varies depending on the product. If they are not opened, they can be stored until the expiration date.

If opened, the storage time is related to the storage method (such as temperature, storage location, usage, etc.). It is generally recommended to use it up within 4 weeks. It is best to keep it away from light and in the refrigerator.

Eye drops are not Fengyoujing, so be sure to consult a doctor before use. When using eye drops for children, parents must be patient enough so that the children will cooperate obediently.
