If I sleep with my head tilted, will it still be tilted when I grow up?

If I sleep with my head tilted, will it still be tilted when I grow up?

Sleeping with a tilted head is a colloquial term we often use. It mainly refers to the fact that the baby always sleeps in one direction, which leads to bone deformation and asymmetry. This will not affect the child's intellectual development, but will only affect the appearance. But this does not mean that it cannot be changed at all. As long as conscious correction is carried out later, the child's head can be helped to resume normal growth.

Most children get better.

When the baby can sit up at around 6 months old, the problem of the head sleeping tilted will no longer get worse. Not only that, the condition will continue to improve naturally, and usually by school age the asymmetry will no longer be noticeable. Only about 1% to 2% of head asymmetry persists into puberty.

If parents can be patient and leave the development of the skull to time, the head shape of most children will improve on its own.

Can a baby's head be restored after sleeping flat?

Can be restored.

For babies who have already developed head tilt, the condition can still be recovered if timely corrective measures are taken. The younger the age, the easier it is to correct. Before the baby is one year old, that is, before the anterior fontanelle closes, adjusting the sleeping position can change the shape of the head.

Will it affect the baby's intelligence if his head is tilted when sleeping?

A baby's head shape has nothing to do with intelligence.

Sleeping with your head tilted does not affect brain development. There is currently no scientific evidence to prove that the roundness or flatness of a newborn's head is related to intellectual development. In fact, the intellectual development of a newborn is comprehensively evaluated based on the size of the head circumference, suture closure, anterior fontanelle size, and the closure time of the anterior and posterior fontanelles. If the brain of a newborn is underdeveloped, symptoms such as small head circumference, small anterior fontanelle or early closure will appear.

Why do babies tend to sleep with their heads tilted?

Before the age of 1, the baby's skull sutures have not yet completely fused, the skull is soft and elastic, and can easily be deformed by pressure. If the baby is used to sleeping on one side, the head will easily be compressed and deformed into a parallelogram or other shape. In a few particularly serious cases, in addition to the head being not round, the position of the eyes and ears may also appear asymmetrical, affecting the appearance.

How to improve the baby's head sleeping sideways

Frequent changes of body position

When the baby is sleeping, parents should consciously change the position of the baby's head frequently. Since babies like to face the direction of people, light and sound when they sleep, parents should choose a suitable sleeping position according to the specific part of the flat head. For example, if the baby has a "left flat head", he should lie on the right side; if the baby has a "right flat head", he should lie on the left side; if the baby has a "flat head behind the pillow", he can lie on the left side alternately. Do not let the baby lie on his back all the time.

Fixed method

For uncooperative babies, you can use objects to clamp them to correct them. The method is to make a bag 20 cm long and 10 cm wide with old cloth, fill it with clean sand or small and heavy objects such as millet, and wrap it with a towel to prevent sand from leaking. If the baby has a "left flat head", let the baby sleep on the right side and use a sandbag to fix the back of the head.
