What should I do if my 3-year-old child has chronic pharyngitis?

Clinically, pharyngitis is a disease that is not only prone to occur in adults, but also in some children. Some people are confused. Why do children who neither smoke nor do related work suffer from pharyngitis? In most cases, this situation occurs basically because of the poor living environment. So the question is, what should I do if my 3-year-old child has chronic pharyngitis?

When you find your child coughing, you should first find the cause and treat it. If it is an infection, relevant antibiotics can be selected and symptomatic treatment should also be carried out.

When the cough is severe or the sputum is thick and difficult to cough up, antitussive and expectorant drugs can be used.

Sometimes phlegm sticks tightly to the bronchi or tracheal walls and is difficult to cough out for a long time. You can inhale water vapor several times a day to moisten the tracheal walls, making the phlegm easier to cough out after diluting it. Long-term cough is often caused by improper treatment, inappropriate medication, incomplete treatment, premature interruption of treatment, or drug resistance.

If the original treatment with Western medicine was not effective, it should be considered that it is due to drug resistance. If Western medicine is difficult to be effective, it is advisable to switch to traditional Chinese medicine for treatment.

The key to TCM treatment of children's long-term cough is to use dialectical treatment and rational medication.

A chronic cough that does not heal, with a weak cough, shortness of breath, mental fatigue, clear and thin white sputum, no obvious sputum sound in the throat when coughing, pale complexion, and frequent night sweats or spontaneous sweating on the head, neck, shoulders and back, are manifestations of chronic cough damaging the lungs and weak lung qi. You can use 10 grams each of Codonopsis pilosula, Atractylodes macrocephala, Astragalus membranaceus, and Poria cocos, 6 grams each of Ophiopogon japonicus and loquat leaves, 3 grams each of Schisandra chinensis and Licorice, decocted in water and taken one dose per day. After the cough disappears, continue to take 7 doses to consolidate the therapeutic effect.

If a patient has a persistent cough that does not heal, has phlegm in the throat when coughing, or coughs up white or slightly yellow thick phlegm, and has a red face when coughing severely, and is usually mentally sleepy, has a poor appetite, or has chest tightness and discomfort, then it is a sign that long-term cough has damaged the spleen, and spleen deficiency and internal obstruction of turbidity are manifestations. You can use 6 grams each of processed Pinellia, Acorus calamus, white mustard seeds, and Fritillaria thunbergii, 3 grams each of dried tangerine peel and licorice, 9 grams each of Atractylodes macrocephala and Poria cocos, and 4.5 grams of Citrus aurantium. Same usage as above.

A chronic cough that does not heal, a dry cough without phlegm, or a small amount of thick phlegm that is difficult to cough up, a hoarse cough, a flushed face and nausea after coughing, or coughing up blood, dry throat and lips, night sweats, or a low fever, red cheeks in the afternoon, and dry stools are manifestations of long-term cough damaging the lungs and insufficient lung yin. You can use 9 grams each of Adenophora Root, Ophiopogon japonicus, Fritillaria cirrhosa, Morus alba bark, roasted loquat leaves, 6 grams each of Polygonatum odoratum and Lilium bulb, and 3 grams of licorice. Same usage as above. Also use 12 grams of Fritillaria cirrhosa, 30 grams of rock sugar, add 100 ml of water, place in a cup, cover, simmer for 45-60 minutes, take in 2 or 3 times, 1 dose per day, for 3 consecutive days.

In addition, pay attention to your child's daily life, prevent colds, and avoid eating fried foods, popsicles, ice cream, etc. People who cough with a lot of phlegm should avoid eating fatty meat, chocolate, glutinous rice, etc.
