What to do if your child cannot speak clearly

Children have a strong learning ability and a high ability to imitate. Although babies do not know how to read when they are young, they can slowly learn to speak through daily communication with their parents. Generally speaking, normal children start learning to speak when they are about one year old, but some parents find that their babies still cannot speak clearly even when they are several years old. So, what should we do if our child cannot speak clearly?

Some parents find that their four-year-old baby speaks slurred and unclearly. Other children in kindergarten could already speak fluently, so he was particularly anxious. When this happens, parents should not be anxious, as it is normal for children to speak late. Next, I will tell you what to do if your four-year-old baby cannot speak clearly.

1. Demonstrate correct pronunciation more often. Many parents like to use overlapping syllables when talking to their babies, such as "eat", "sleep", "put on clothes", "put on hat", etc. This will cause the baby to speak unclearly. Parents should talk to their babies in normal language. In addition, if the baby's pronunciation is incorrect, parents should demonstrate the correct pronunciation instead of imitating the child's speech, otherwise it will have a very bad impact on the child's speech recognition ability. If the baby says: I want to take a plane. Parents can say: Okay, let’s take the plane together. Parents don’t need to ask their babies to repeat themselves, they just need to demonstrate the correct pronunciation.

2. Eat some harder food. If your baby only eats very soft food and does not eat hard food, it will affect the development of oral movements. Therefore, within a safe range, parents can let their babies eat more harder foods, which can train their oral motor skills. Parents don’t have to always cut their children’s food into pieces and let them eat thinly cooked noodles, otherwise it will deprive their children of many learning opportunities.

3. Go to the hospital for treatment. If the child has problems with hearing or other aspects, it may also cause the four-year-old baby to speak unclearly. Then parents need to take the baby to the hospital for treatment in time.

There are many reasons why a four-year-old baby cannot speak clearly, such as incoordination of oral functions and incorrect demonstration by parents, which can cause the baby to speak unclearly. When encountering this situation, parents should patiently correct their baby's pronunciation. Exercise your baby's oral coordination ability by eating hard food appropriately. If the speech disorder is severe, you should see a doctor.
