How to train a child who is late in speaking

How to train a child who is late in speaking

Generally, children can utter simple words when they are one year old. During this period, you can talk to your baby more so that he can learn words quickly and master speaking skills. Most children can communicate with their parents through voice and intonation when they are two or three years old, but some children still cannot speak normally after the age of two, which makes many parents very worried. So, how should parents train children who speak late?

1. Physiological reasons cause the baby to not speak

Is there adhesion on the baby's tongue? Is there any problem with the baby's hearing? Is the baby sick, such as cerebral palsy? If your baby cannot speak due to physiological reasons, you need to treat him as soon as possible and do not miss the golden time for treatment.

2. The language environment causes the baby to not speak

You only talk to your child occasionally; apart from you, few other people talk to your baby; your family members have mixed accents, including dialects, English, and Mandarin. Generally speaking, babies who are in these three unfavorable language environments will start speaking later. If the language environment you provide for your baby is too monotonous or too complex, the child will not receive effective stimulation, resulting in delayed language development. You need to change immediately. You should talk to your child more often and temporarily unify the accent of the whole family so that your baby can understand and imitate easily.

3. The communication method causes the baby to not speak

For example, adults seldom talk to babies in normal times, so babies rarely get the opportunity to practice speaking, which affects the baby's language development; some parents are too doting and accommodating to their babies, always meeting their demands based on the baby's gestures and eyes, neglecting the baby's language training, causing them to gradually develop the habit of using gestures instead of speaking, thus delaying the baby's language development.

In order to promote the child's language development, parents or other family members who raise the child must talk to the child frequently from the moment the child is born. Although children may not understand at first, this is a necessary process in language development. When teaching children to speak, combine sounds with real objects or actions. For example: say "grandma" while pointing at grandma, say "drink water" while holding up the bowl of water, say goodbye while pulling the child's hand to signal. In the training of mastering vocabulary, we should make full use of the real vocabulary that is often used in our living environment, such as words related to utensils, animals, food, etc. Research shows that among the vocabulary mastered by 4-year-old children, nouns account for 50% and verbs account for 27%. This tells us that when helping children master vocabulary, we should focus on language training of nouns and verbs, because these are the easiest and most mastered words for preschool children.
