Calcium supplement for children

Calcium supplement for children

Many mothers start taking calcium supplements from the moment they become pregnant, partly to replenish their own calcium and partly to supplement their children. Calcium supplements are also taken continuously during the baby's birth and growth process. Children who have taken calcium supplements will have strong resistance and will also be less likely to get sick, catch a cold, or have a fever. When it comes to the amount of calcium supplements children use, they should also pay attention to the fact that the calcium supplement requirements for children at different age stages are different.

How much calcium should children aged 0-6 take every day?

99% of calcium exists in human bones and teeth. If there is a lack of calcium, it will directly affect the health of children's bones and teeth. In order to supplement calcium for children scientifically and reasonably, we must first understand how much calcium the child needs every day so that the baby's mother can pay attention to calcium supplementation in daily life.

The daily calcium intake for infants, toddlers and school-age children is: 400 mg for newborns to 6 months 600 mg for 7-12 months 600 mg for 1-12 years old 800 mg for 3-6 years old Related articles How important is it to vaccinate your baby? For infants aged 0-6 months whose main food is milk, in addition to a certain amount of calcium ingested from milk, they also need to take additional calcium supplements to supplement the calcium needed by the baby in a day. It is recommended to supplement an additional 200 mg per day.

Infants aged 7 to 12 months not only consume some calcium from milk, but also from added complementary foods. However, infants at this stage grow and develop particularly rapidly, and their need for calcium also increases, so they still need to continue to supplement calcium. It is recommended to supplement an additional 300 mg per day. When mothers supplement calcium for their children, they must pay attention to the dosage and supplement it reasonably.

In addition to taking calcium supplements, we also advocate taking calcium from food. For children aged 1 to 3 years old, their deciduous teeth gradually erupt, and by the age of 2 and a half, all of them are out. They can eat normal foods, but milk and dairy products (yogurt, cream, and cottage cheese) are still the only reliable source of calcium. They should ensure that they drink at least 250 ml of milk every day. Foods high in calcium include: dried shrimp, mustard, sesame and sesame paste, whole egg powder, coriander (dehydrated), bracken (dehydrated), etc.

In addition, more sun exposure and sufficient ultraviolet radiation can convert 7-dehydrocholesterol in the skin into vitamin D3. Vitamin D plays an active role in the absorption of calcium and phosphorus, so you should consume more foods containing vitamin D (such as liver, milk, cream, caviar, egg yolk, etc.). Children under 1 year old should also take cod liver oil supplements. There are many types of cod liver oil preparations. You must pay attention to the dosage and supplement 400 international units per day.

In addition to helping build bones, calcium can relax nerves, regulate emotions, and is a good sedative. In short, calcium is one of the very important trace elements in the human body, and we should pay attention to scientific and reasonable calcium supplementation.
