Baby's armpit temperature

Baby's armpit temperature

Since the regulatory function of a newborn baby is not yet complete, it is very likely that the baby will have a fever due to untimely heat dissipation. Generally speaking, children's normal body temperature is slightly higher than that of adults, fluctuating roughly between 36.9 and 37.5. When parents measure their baby's temperature, it is best to measure the temperature under the armpit because the temperature in this area is more balanced.

1. Normal body temperature

The normal basal body temperature of children is 36.9℃~37.5℃. Generally, when the body temperature exceeds the basal body temperature by more than 1°C, it is considered a fever. Among them, low fever refers to body temperature fluctuating around 38°C, and high fever refers to body temperature above 39°C. Continuous fever for more than two weeks is called long-term fever.

The above-mentioned basal body temperature refers to the rectal temperature, which is measured from the anus. Generally, the oral temperature is 0.3℃~0.5℃ lower than the rectal temperature, and the axillary temperature is 0.3℃~0.5℃ lower than the oral temperature.

2. There are two ways to raise body temperature, and we should use them in combination.

1. Keep warm: The room temperature should not be lower than 20 degrees. Make sure your baby wears thick and warm clothes and has a cotton hat. It is best to place one or several hot water bottles outside the cotton hat for warmth. Pay special attention when changing clothes for your baby.

2. Pay attention to strengthening nutrition: Appropriate supplementation of glucose can enhance the baby's ability to resist cold to a certain extent and help the body temperature return to normal.

If the above methods do not work and the baby's body temperature is still too low, you must go to the hospital to seek medical help in time, find out the cause of the low body temperature, and take further treatment and care.

2. Recovery Method

Physical cooling methods: ① Cold compress on the head and areas rich in blood vessels: Place cold towels and ice caps on the patient's head. At the same time, ice packs can also be placed in the armpits, groin and other areas where large blood vessels pass; ② Alcohol or warm water bath: Use 30% to 50% alcohol or 32℃ to 34℃ warm water to bathe the patient's neck, chest, armpits, upper limbs, palms, back of hands, groin, lower limbs, soles of feet, insteps and other parts. Do it for 15 to 30 minutes each time to promote evaporative heat dissipation of the body.
