Developmental standards for premature infants

Developmental standards for premature infants

In fact, it is even more difficult to feed premature babies. We all know that babies are born with the ability to suck, so they have food to eat when they are born. However, since premature babies' sucking ability has not yet fully developed, they can only be fed artificially, and their resistance is relatively weak. Many premature babies are placed in incubators as soon as they are born.

The temperature in the premature baby room should be maintained at 24~360C and the humidity at 55%~65%. The lighter the baby's weight, the closer the surrounding temperature should be to the premature baby's body temperature. If cyanosis and breathing difficulties occur, oxygen should be administered. It is best not to use it continuously for a long time to avoid causing retrolental fibrosis, which can lead to visual impairment. Premature infants are prone to hypoglycemia after birth due to insufficient glycogen reserves in their bodies. Therefore, it is recommended to feed them adequately early, starting 6 hours after birth, and try feeding them sugar water 1 to 2 times before breastfeeding. For patients who are underweight or generally weak, feeding can be delayed, but intravenous fluids are required. During the rehydration period, premature babies should be allowed to suck on empty nipples frequently to stimulate the secretion of gastrointestinal hormones. Premature babies who have the ability to suck are best fed with breast milk. If there is no breast milk, they should be fed with formula milk specially designed for premature babies. Premature babies are susceptible to infectious diseases due to their low immune function. To prevent infection, wash your hands with soap when caring for premature babies, and isolate them in time if they have infectious diseases. Try to reduce the number and frequency of adult visits, and do not let adults touch children casually to avoid increasing the chance of infection.

Guidance:

Maintain appropriate environmental temperature and humidity, it is best to breastfeed, and pay attention to preventing infectious diseases.

Since children do not have enough sucking strength, you should feed them patiently. Premature babies can be fed milk powder to promote digestion and increase nutrient absorption. 5. Premature babies are also very sensitive to temperature and changes, so attention should be paid to maintaining body temperature and temperature stability to avoid illness. Return to the hospital regularly for follow-up examinations and treatment.
