Infant abdominal distension and gas

Infant abdominal distension and gas

If the baby has abdominal bloating, he will feel uncomfortable in his stomach and then cry incessantly. Especially for babies who are breastfed, if the mother's feeding posture is incorrect, it is easy for the baby to choke and get bloating. At this time, not only will the baby become irritable and cry, but the parents will also be at a loss. Here’s how to feed your baby correctly.

How to relieve baby's bloating

In fact, babies also have some ways to dissipate gas, such as:

1. After feeding, gently pat the baby's back to promote burping and discharge gas from the esophagus;

2. Some babies are very good at passing gas and can pass it out through the anus;

3. In addition, abdominal distension can also be relieved by relying on the absorption of the gastrointestinal wall.

What should I do if my baby has bloating?

1 When breastfeeding, pay attention to the baby's feeding speed and the mother's breastfeeding posture. Feeding too fast is an important reason for baby's bloating. At that time, I had a lot of milk, and it would easily spray out when the baby sucked, which would often choke the baby. This not only easily caused the baby to have bloating, but also easily caused vomiting. In this case, you can express the milk by hand or use a breast pump to suck out a little before feeding your baby. As for the breastfeeding posture, the baby should hold most of the areola in his mouth to avoid inhaling too much air.

2 For babies who are fed with milk powder, try to choose anti-bloating bottles and low-lactose formula milk. It can greatly reduce the possibility of baby's bloating.

3. Burp the baby after feeding. Hold your baby upright and pat the upper-middle part of his back to help him expel gas. The correct posture is to put five fingers together, concave your palms, and gently pat the baby's back from bottom to top. After feeding, you can let the baby wait quietly in your arms for a few minutes, and then burp the baby. This can relieve bloating without causing the baby to spit up milk.

4 airplane hug. Although the airplane hold is a very useful method, my baby was too young and I didn’t know where to start at the time, so I didn’t dare to try it easily. In fact, when I got older, I found it was still very simple. You can first pass your left hand between the baby's legs, support the baby's stomach below the ribs with the palm of your hand, then pass your right hand under the baby's outer armpit, support the baby's outer arm, protect the baby's waist and hips with your right palm, and pat gently.

5. Abdominal massage. One is to simply apply some pressure to the abdomen. For example, when the baby is awake, try to let him lie on his stomach, or when the baby is lying flat, hold the baby's calves and let him bend his knees, with his knees against his lower abdomen. After a few times, the baby will fart and will feel much more relaxed immediately.
