What should we do if children suffer from heatstroke?

In the hot summer, the temperature is relatively high, coupled with the scorching sun, it is easy to get heatstroke, especially for young babies. Because the baby's body is still developing, the baby's resistance is relatively poor, so it is easy to get heatstroke in high temperatures. Heatstroke will cause sweating, weakness, dizziness, and in severe cases, fainting. If the baby has heatstroke, it is necessary to seek medical treatment in time and cool down in time to improve the condition. What should I do if a child has heatstroke? Let’s take a look at it next.

1. Causes of heatstroke in children

1. One of the reasons for heatstroke in children is that the baby is over-warmed, especially in the neonatal period (from birth to 28 days). Newborns have relatively weak resistance and poor physical constitution, so many parents are afraid that their children will catch cold and always blindly add clothes to keep their children warm, thinking that heat is always better than cold. This is not a big deal in winter, but in summer it can easily lead to a decrease in body fluids, loss of salt components, and cellular dehydration, thereby causing heatstroke in children.

2. The second reason for heatstroke in children is that they do not drink enough water in a hot environment. Young children do not drink enough water in a hot environment, and the evaporation of water in their bodies leads to cellular dehydration. This is also the reason why children are very likely to suffer from heatstroke.

3. The third cause of heatstroke in children is excessive activity in a hot environment. If young children are too active in a hot environment, it will directly affect the increase in their body temperature and cause heatstroke.

2. Symptoms of heat stroke in children

1. Although the baby is very hot and has a high body temperature, he may not sweat. (This is one of the most typical symptoms of heat stroke)

2. The baby's skin will become red, hot and dry.

3. The baby becomes restless and cries, with faster breathing and pulse; then becomes tired, or even goes into convulsions or coma.

4. Older children may experience dizziness, nausea, loss of direction, and grogginess.

Therefore, the symptoms of heatstroke in children are quite diverse, including fever without sweating, dry and red skin, crying and restlessness of babies, accelerated pulse, dizziness and nausea, etc.

3. What should I do if my child suffers from heatstroke?

1. Immediately move the baby to a ventilated, cool and dry place, such as a corridor or under the shade of a tree.

2. Let the baby lie on his back, unbutton his clothes, and take off or loosen his clothes. If the baby's clothes are soaked with sweat, you should change the baby into dry clothes in time, and turn on the fan or air conditioner to dissipate heat as soon as possible, but do not blow the wind directly on the baby.

3. Cool down quickly to reduce the baby's body temperature to below 38 degrees. The specific method is: apply a cool, wet towel to the baby's head, or give the baby a warm bath.

4. Do not let the baby eat or drink water before he is conscious. After he is conscious, give him some caffeine-free refreshing drinks every 10 to 15 minutes, but do not give them if he vomits or is unconscious. You can also let your baby drink mung bean soup, light salt water, etc. to relieve heat.

5. You can also pinch the baby's Ren Zhong, Nei Guan and Hegu points. If you have objects such as needles around you, you can disinfect them with fire first, then use the needle to shallowly pierce the Ren Zhong point and squeeze out blood drops. These two methods have a good therapeutic effect on babies who are sweating profusely and exhausted.

6. Seek medical treatment immediately.
