Is it okay to use baby enema?

The baby's body is very weak, and parents will inevitably encounter various situations in the process of taking care of their children. For example, the baby's stool is dry and the defecation is not smooth. What should parents do when encountering this situation? Some parents may think of using enema. However, is it good to use enema for babies? Will there be any side effects? After all, it is different from that for adults. So let's take a look at whether it is okay for babies to use enema.

There are many common brands of enema on the market, but the ingredients are nothing more than glycerin, mannitol and magnesium sulfate. Various mannitol preparations have different ingredients and different proportions between the ingredients, but the principles are basically the same. They all use the high concentration of glycerol or sorbitol, that is, the hyperosmotic effect, to soften the stool, stimulate the intestinal wall, and reflexively induce a defecation reaction. In addition, its lubricating effect can make the stool easier to excrete.

The principle of enema is to stimulate the colon wall, promote colon peristalsis and cause defecation reflex. Although enema has very little side effects, if it is used frequently and as a companion to constipation, the rectum will be abnormally stimulated more and more often and its sensitivity will become worse and worse. Once the intestines get used to the drug, it will be difficult to initiate a bowel movement on its own. This is especially true for patients with dry and small stools. It will be more difficult to defecate if they rely on enema for a long time. Enemas cause dryness of the intestinal wall, and frequent use can cause habitual constipation. There will also be dependencies. So avoid taking medicines and eat some convenient vegetables and fruits, such as watermelon (it is best to eat the seeds together), bananas, etc.

Usually, give your child more baby honey, or you can mix it with water and give it to your child to drink. It is best not to use enema. Currently, better medicines include Bifikon, Jinshuangqi, Xiaoer Qizhen Pills, etc., which have no side effects and can be used for children.
