Coffee spots on seven month old baby

Coffee spots on seven month old baby

Babies are most likely to have some minor physical problems at the age of seven months. For example, some babies are prone to catching colds and getting sick, and some babies often cry and become restless. However, many babies develop coffee spots at seven months old, which will make people wonder. It is necessary to consider whether there are freckles, eczema or genetic factors, and the children need to be examined accordingly.

Differential Diagnosis

It should be differentiated from freckles and simple freckles. Freckles rarely have large rashes, and pathological sections do not show an increase in basal pigment cells; simple freckles are mostly unilateral, and pathological sections show elongated epidermal protrusions. [1]

examine

1. Physical examination

Examine your skin, noting the location and pattern of the spots. Look for obvious skin lesions such as axillary freckles, pigmented spots, small spherical fragments, and areas of depigmentation. For large lesions the maximum length should be measured. Wood light examination is helpful in evaluating lesions in individuals with lightly pigmented skin. Check for subcutaneous neurofibromas along the major nerve branches, focusing on the trunk. Also check for skeletal abnormalities, such as scoliosis and kyphosis.

2. Pathological examination

The number of melanocytes and melanin in the basal layer of the epidermis increase.

treat

Traditional treatments for café au lait stains include freezing, grinding, and excision, which have varying degrees of success but often result in serious adverse reactions such as permanent pigment changes or scarring. Q-switched laser treatment of café-au-lait spots usually does not cause scars, but the efficacy varies greatly and is unpredictable. Currently, no laser can achieve a completely ideal therapeutic effect. The spots may be completely eliminated or may have no effect. The recurrence rate after treatment is 0 to 67%, and coffee-milk spots on the face are more sensitive to laser treatment.

Cafe au lait spots require multiple treatments to prevent re-pigmentation by nearby unirradiated melanocytes. After treatment, the patient should avoid sunlight to reduce the activity of residual melanin.

Clinical manifestations

Café au lait spots are light brown spots, ranging from tan to dark brown, of varying sizes, round, oval or irregular in shape, with clear boundaries and a smooth surface. They may be present at birth or after birth and increase in number throughout childhood. It is more common on the trunk and will not disappear on its own. Café au lait spots that occur in different diseases may have different characteristics and be accompanied by other abnormal manifestations.

Precautions

Although the disorder does not require treatment, emotional support should be provided to patients and their families. They are advised to undergo genetic counseling and diagnostic tests such as tissue biopsy and radiological examinations.
